Absolutely 100% true there are flavonoids and antioxidents in red wine that are good for the heart - keeps things pumping smoothly. dark grape juice, or blueberries, etc also have the same effect.

Funny, I eat meat. I am in better shape than you. You couldn't work out more than I do. I have a family of meat eaters, my son is in the best shape of us all. The doctor comments consistantly on his rating in the percentile scale for height/weight/health as he is consistantly in the 99 percentile. Care to try that question again with more facts this time instead of just bleeding heart crap?

in the case I am speaking of: a 50 yr old male 210 lbs w/ no family history of heart disease, BUT some occasional pains in the chest area. electro cardiac stress test was also normal also non smoker (and never smoked), and a virtual teatotaller 5'11 210 lbs. ovrwt by about 30 lbs. ouch.

It is possible. There can be undetected causes or even a congenital condition that has gone untreated. Usually being overweight and having higher than normal cholesterol and triglycerides go hand in hand. When was his last checkup with blood tests? When was his last checkup with a cardiologist? Also what prompted his doctor to have him go through a cardiac stress test in the first place? He is doing most of the right things for a healthy heart, except for the weight. If his cholesterol and triglycerides were high in the recent past it could have caused narrowing of coronary arteries, thus the chest pain. There is also the possibility of problems with the electrical conduction pathways of the heart. Most of your questions are best asked of his doctor/cardiologist.

For example acid reflux can cause chest pains that feel like a heart attack, so can esophageal spasm, and that one is relieved by nitroglycerin, making the diagnosis all that much more difficult. I suffer from dizziness, but it only happens at nights, and 1 or twice a month. sometimes it goes away for even 4 or 6 months and I don't feel it. but then it reappears again. Lately its being accompanied by shortness of Breath because of the abrupt awaking and my heart starts beating so hard I think I could have a stroke! Also my mouth feels drier than usual. I don't think it necessarily raises your risk, however, it's important to consider if there's enough consequence of the diabetes to cause neuropathic damage, then certainly that's an indicator that there may be other consequences of the diabetes, such as the micro/macrovascular complications that lead to heart disease. The autonomic neuropathy may have an effect on how b-blockers work and your ability to regulate blood pressure which also may have a consequence on heart health

I hope you're under a doctor's supervision! That said...reverse it? I've heard of managing angina/heart disease. Angina is when the heart muscle doesn't get enough blood, but I am sure you already know this. What does your cardiologist say? If you're not hooked up with one, do so immediately. I am 58 years old and started having these skipped beats around the time I had my first child at age 29, and have had them ever since. I do suffer from AF, but my cardiologist says that the premature beats have nothing to do with my AF and are actually common and not necessarily cause for alarm. He doesn't treat them with medication unless they get bad enough that they interfere with every day life. If you have gone to the doctor and they found nothing wrong, all you can do is deal with it. The doctor might prescribe some type of medication to keep them under control the the side effects of these medications are numerous and dangerous.

Doctors are not medical researchers so they would not be the ones investigating "cures" in the first place. Doctors diagnose and treat illnesses based on research performed by scientists. Diseases are very complicated. Even developing a drug that may just treat an illness can take up to 20 years of testing and most drugs tested never make it to market. Many diseases are caused by multiple problems and sometimes the system is poorly understood so more work needs to be done to understand what causes the disease before we can even begin to treat it.

However he is backed up they have to remove that surgically but they cannot put him under because of his heart he is uncomfortable and I am worried because he is not eating and barely drinking and I have to wait till monday for an ultrasound on his heart

My cat recently had to be euthenized for somewhat the same reason. I'm really sorry. I think you should just try to make him as comfortable as possible.That's what we did. It was all we could do.

Would a Kitty enema work? I hate to say it, but it sounds like kitty may need to be euthanized if he is in incurable pain. Ask the vet for advice. I know it is sad, but whatever you do, just keep his best interests in mind and you will make the right decision. Much love

I'm sorry to hear about your cat. I hope the heart condition is not too serious. Megacolon can be a chronic problem. Laxatone can help cats pass feces when they are blocked. You may also have to learn the technique for manually manipulating the poop out of the cat's large intestine by squeezing his body. It takes practice but it can be done.

There are medical approaches other than surgery for the megacolon condition. They involve laxatives, psylium and cisapride. Over time, the cat develops a resistance to the medication, and the dosage has to be increased, which can lead to side effects. The older your cat is, the more viable the medication option. Good luck, as the heart disease certainly complicates matters.

do what the vet suggests ..people are too attached to a pet to be logical about severe health problems..mine had congestive heart failure..i managed to give him one more year..but he was getting very unhappy and i had trouble getting him to eat..i had decided to take him to the vet and have him put to sleep. he was so miserable..but he saved me the trouble..when i came home from the store he had died..apparently of a heart attack. if the quality of a pets life is no longer good you owe them the mercy of a quiet and painless passing. If you have a good vet he will not suggest an expensive operation, that may not prolong the life of your cat or improve his life. especially if it is an older cat. i lost one under the knife because no one realized his heart was not a normal size.

DMD Girl! I would call your vet, and not wait till Monday if he is not eating or barely drinking. The more dehydrated your cat becomes, the weaker he gets and surgical risks increase. I suspect that he needs IV fluids. If your vet does not have after hour services, call an Emergency ER. I had a 5 year old Siamese neuter who we treated for Megacolon for 3 years using the gold standard of megacolon treatment,cisapride, lactulose, laxatone and a stool softener that my vet prescribed ( over the counter), so I speak from several years of experience caretaking a kitty with this condition. The medications worked quite well, along with a high fiber diet ( the jury is out on this as there is controversy about high-vs low fiber) for a couple of years but ultimately he had to have a subtotal colectomy. Unfortunately we did not know about his underlying heart condition and he died several weeks after the surgery, although he was recovering beautifully from the surgery. I did join a Yahoo group that is devoted to megacolon. The group was supportive and very helpful with suggestions and information. I recommend that you join this group, as the condition is chronic and can be very emotionally draining for the human caretaker. Ok..listen...see a doctor if you are worried. One question to answer right now, is there a history of heart disease in your family, if yes go even quicker. Heart pain can be caused by lack of oxygen i.e. asthma. But yahoo is not the place of this type of diagnosis

The sharp pains are nothing to worry about, if only happens once in a while. If it happens frequently, I would definitely get it checked out. Emotions can definitely be a cause. If you're really concerned, get an EKG and/or have the doc do a stress test on the treadmill.

Being 14 I can pretty much bet the farm that its not heart disease. Stress and emotions can absolutely cause heart attack like symptoms: tightness, feeling of breathlessness, pain etc. If you get these pains while at rest I would say most likely related to stress or possibly even gas. If you get these pains after being active you may have a heart abnormality and may require medication or treatment. In any case it would be good idea to have a doctor look at you, listen to your heart, check your blood pressure, maybe even get an ekg to see how your heart is functioning. All are painless and worth it to give you some peace of mind.

It is very very unlikely that you have any heart disease at your age. You simply have not lived long enough to have caused plaque to build up to the extent that your vessels would be narrowed and cause pain, even if you were a smoker/drinker. If you are taking a daily asthma medication (broncho dilator) it could be that that is the cause of your angina (chest pain.) Your dose is probably too high. Other causes of chest pain could be that it's actually referred pain from GI (stomach) problems, esp. if this is related to stress....a good way to tell where the pain is coming from is to take a Tums or Rolaids when you get the pain----if it helps, it was your stomach and not your heart. When you say "your heart is having difficulty pumping" if you mean that it's irregular, a few coughs should make it more efficient; If it's because your circulation is poor a baby aspirin (or half an adult) is good for everyone, bec. it makes your blood thinner, which makes the work of your heart easier. (If you get too much aspirin you will know because you will bruise easily, bleed too long with a scratch, etc.) Hope this helps---

Being 14 is also a difficult time physically, because in addition to the stress of growing up, your body is undergoing tremendous physical changes. The odds are that the pains you are feeling are not in your heart. But it is worth discussing it with a doctor, who can do a simple stress test and get a reading on how your heart is performing. He can also check out some of the other possibilities for pain in that area. General rule - pain should not be normal, and if you are experiencing regular pain, get it checked out. Better to find out it is something small that can be treated than to hear the words, "Oh dear, if you had only come in earlier, we could have done something."

I'm trying to write this story about a teenage boy who has a problem with his heart. What are some heart diseases that could fit this description. I guess it doesn't really have to be a heart disease, any disease, really. It's definately possible. There's no law as to how fast heart disease progresses. Of course it depends on the disease and the nature of it. I'm sure the symptoms can wax and wane with somedays being better than others. I'm sure your vet can give you a far more indepth answer as he knows more of your dogs situation than any of us. :) I hope your dog feels better soon!

Lethargy can be indicate of hundreds of conditions, heart disease one of them, but not without other symptoms. If she was having generalized heart disease with lethargy or weakness, you'd expect decreased urine output, coughing, increase breathing, murmurs, and increase heart rate among other things. It does get progressively worse, just like in humans. I don't know that there's any reason to think that the lethargy is being caused by heart disease (versus any other of the possible causes). If you're concerned, bring your dog to the vet. Your vet will be sure to find heart disease if it exists.

Depends on the severity of the problem - goes from Grade 1 to Grade 5 - but your dog hasn't been diagnosed with heart disease, so why worry. If she did have it, there are all sorts of medications now to control it in dogs - it's far from a death sentence. We have taken several dogs into our rescue with heart problems, they are o.k., some just need regular medication - no big deal usually.

Yes, it would worsen over time. Lethargy is just one symptom, and on its own doesn't necessarily mean that your dog has a heart problem. Your Vet would want to listen to the heart to see if there is a murmur present, or do x-rays to see if the heart is enlarged. An EKG or ultrasound may also be recommended. At 5yrs, heart disease is relatively rare - unless you have breed such as a Dobie that is prone to heart problems. Advanced heart disease would certainly cause coughing due to fluid backing up into the lungs, as well as exercise intolerance, difficulty breathing (turns blue easily) or fainting. Note: heart disease is not detected by doing routine bloodwork. However, you may want to see if the bloodwork included a thyroid level. Hypothyroid dogs can tire easily and seem lethargic. Unfortunately, yes. Do you know what is wrong with her heart? My dog, like my last, has a heart murmur and although she does not display and symptoms like coughing or fainting yet, (she is now 6 years old). He said the murmur has gotten worse in the last few months and she really needs an EKG done and a cardiologist to look at it. They have meds to slow the deterioration of the heart, and give a little more time. The earlier you start, the better they work from what I understand. I don't think anyone on line is in a position to give a prognosis here. People can live with that ejection fraction, but it's a fragile balance of medication, rest, activity, seeing the doctor, reducing stress, keeping weight normal, etc. Lexipro has nothing to do with this cardiac condition. It's for something else. A question like this is for his doctor, who knows his particular health and health history. Encourage him to ask when he sees his doctor, or ask if you can go with him to see the doctor next time he goes, and ask. Good luck.

This is a difficult question to answer for several reasons. There are many causes for a low ejection fraction, and each has its own outcome. Ejection fraction does not always correlate with symptoms or outcome. It is also dependent on the therapies being used and the response to these therapies. Doctors even have a difficult time predicting the outcome in heart failure patients. Factors that influence outcome include the presence of symptoms, weight, kidney function, age, other medical issues, presence of coronary artery disease (blockages in blood vessels of the heart), etc. He should discuss this with his doctor. Both cultural and poor diet choices. Southern women love to cook and fried food and fatty foods and high starch foods is part of that culture. Eating is a big part of the mechanics of the family. I think that education is the key and parents being accountable for what their children eat. It is not just the african americans that eat so poorly, the majority of americans from all races and both male and female. We have become a lazy society where TV, computer dictates how we live. First of all, most American's have poor diets. But there a few reasons any person could have a poor diet, african or otherwise. Socio-economic status could play a factor, whether it be because of limited income, being on a government program that only allows you to buy certain food, lack of education to know how to have a "proper diet," lack of resources around town where you could actually buy good food...etc etc....but again - this can apply to whites OR blacks. Obviously, culture can also play a part in it. But for some diseases, a higher percentage of blacks get the disease because of stress and poor diets (hypertension, for example). The stress of living in a systematically racist society, plus the stress of everyday life, in combination with crappy diets and limited activity that is common to American life, leads to more of a risk of developing a disease.

I do believe that it is a cultural thing. African Americans have the great tradition of "Soul Food", which is a diet rich in high fats. Foods such as fried chicken, shredded pork, ribs, any part of the pig for that matter, and they cook it in gallons of oil. Don't get me wrong it tastes good and everything, but its very high in saturated fats. And culturally African Americans make a tradition out of having big Sunday dinners with the family with these food. But since these foods are high in saturated fats, they are at a greater risk for heart disease. Because saturated fats have been directly linked to heart disease.

They eat it for the same reason i do, it tastes better. Fatty foods are very good tasting. I think they have the same attitude i do, have a good time while you are alive. If i had the choice to have a lot less fun and live longer or more pleasure and have a shorter life, I would choose the latter. It's more of a cultural thing than a race thing by far.

I would think that on a high school level, with only ten minutes, you would barely have time to get in the necessary facts. Fun/interactive reminds me of younger grades and topics that aren't as serious. It's just my take on it. Give the kids the facts in true or false form and ask how many think something is true, and how many think it's false. Time is a factor here.... explaining and describing each (a heart attack and a stroke) will take close to 10 min. If time allows, bring in a Para-Medic that works for an ambulance company or a hospital and have them explain. They would know a lot more and can be creative with some of their equipment. Also, a Red Cross trainer for CPR is a good resource. He/she can actually demonstrate and have the students participate in how to use the equipment as well as do CPR. If that takes too much time and/or work on your part, I would give your local city ambulance office or Red cross office for some participation and assistance. Even the Fire department personnel would be happy to come in and do some presentation for you. There are local hospitals that have public relations department that also conducts classes for students as well as the public. They will be a good resource to invite and do a presentation for you. Most of them have very good presentation materials including DVD and other hands on items like rubber heart models gotten from various drug companies. So it's not "easy" for you but definitely easy and interesting for your students

I have pain in my left breast. But i'm not sure if it is in my chest that i am feeling the pain, or in my breast. I feel some pressure in my back on the left shoulder blade. my blood pressure is 114/79, and my pulse is 56. this low grade pressure/pain has been going on for two weeks now. anybody have any idea what could be wrong without telling me to go to the emergency room? I do have more fatigue as well.

I do not think it is a heart problem, might be chest infection, or inflammation, suggest you see a Doc.

The ER's probably not necessary if you've had it for two weeks now, but I'd definitely make an appointment with my GP sometime soon. It does sound like your heart because of the fatigue and pressure, but this might be useful information depending upon your other symptoms: chest pain that intensifies with breathing is a lung problem. If it remains the same regardless of how you're breathing I'm sorry to say it probably is your heart. Heart problems can also be responsible for an unnatural upswing of depression or anxiety. Either of those affecting you? Good luck.

It is possible, but probably not the first thing to suspect based on your symptoms. Do you have any shortness of breath? Heartburn? If this has been going on for 2 weeks with no change the ER is probably not necessary, but I would make an appointment with my primary doctor for as soon as possible.

If you have pain on your chest that radiates to the left shoulder I think you need to see a doctor as soon as possible. You may not know if you have had a silent heart attack, angina or whatever that may be. It can also be muscular but I am just concern if that pain is radiating to the left shoulder. We can't just assume what we have unless we have been seen by a medical professional and proper tests have been done. I also concern about your pulse rate. That seems low and I constitute that as bradycardia. I am just wondering if you are an athlete or u jog daily. Your blood pressure looks ok to me unless you have had a history of high blood pressure and if you feel dizzy with this blood pressure reading

Personally, I think they already have cures for all of these, but they make more money off of treating it. I don't know if they'll ever release the cures in our lifetimes.

There are cures for all of those diseases. Whether we want to believe it or not. The only reason why these cures have not been given is because the pharmaceutical companies make billions of dollars by giving cancer/aids patients concoctions of drugs. Some aids patients take up to 30 pills a day, just to live to see the next day. Could you imagine the amount they would lose, if they were to give one pill that would cure millions of people. They would go broke, and we all know that there plenty of greedy, powerful people in this world.

There is no cure, nor is there a secret vault hidden deep within pharmaceutical land that protects the cure for cancer and AIDS. I really don't think throwing money at the problem will fix it, especially when AIDS is a preventable disease. Prevention is the key. I wouldn't be opposed to donating to prevention programs that target AIDS, cancer, heart disease, etc.

As for the question, you can't put a sum of money on unknown quanities like 'curing AIDS and cancer' because nobody knows what is required to accomplish those tasks. Safe to guess in the billions or trillions of dollars, though...... if they are possible at all. I disagree with jef_h that it's not a worthwhile investment, however. Even if the Big Payoff of a cure is not found, there will surely be progress made which will result in reducing human misery. Indeed, the biggest and cheapest payoff in AIDS would be for a worldwide organization to buy the patents for AZT, 3TC, ABC and all the other HIV/AIDS medications and put them to use controlling the 70 million AIDS cases in the Third World. Right now, with the majority of them uncontrolled, there is a humanitarian catastrophe of unprecedented magnitude. HAART antiretroviral therapy is highly effective at controlling the misery of HIV infection.

Can thin people get heart disease or diabetes?
Im 15 and I am in good health. For the past year, I have focussed all my attention toward acedemics, which means I have no time to exercise. Now, my sophomore and junior are yet to come, and I will have to put more towards the acedemic area. Without exercise, I am worried if I would get heart problems or diabetes. What do you think? Till now, I am in perfect health. I am a bit underheight, and pretty thin (not anorexic of course). My stomach is a wee bit fatty (not fat nor so stomachless), but I am pretty thin. Any suggestions? I think I should add that I rarely eat food outside. Im vegeterian, and I intake much carbohydrates

Yes, thin people can get heart disease and diabetes, but I don't think it's something to worry about at your age. It's mostly just older thin people who've led sedentary lives and eaten poorly all their lives who end up having problems. You're doing ok. Concentrate on grades for now, but don't forget that activity and good diet are important too.

Thin people can get just as many illness and diseases as overweight ones. But most diseases come from partially being overweight, other attributes to getting a disease is in the family genes and the way you eat, i.e. fried foods every day.

you can get these diseases if you're thin b/c they can be hereditary. however, exercising and taking care of yourself will give you the energy that you need to do well in in school and will provide a necessary break. maybe get otgether with some friends to go for walks or join a gym.

While thinner people are at less of a risk of heart disease or diabetes, it does not disqualify them. If there is heart disease or diabetes in your family, you are at a much higher risk of it. Sometimes these conditions can be hereditary, sometimes they are brought on by outside factors. At your age you should be getting 30 minutes of active movement per day. I wouldn't worry about it at this point. If you are going for regular checkups with bloodwork, if anything is irregular, your doctor would let your parents know. I'm sure everything is fine or you would have heard.

You need to exercise. It will actually help you study, sleep better, and be more productive in your academic endeavors. It's too important for your overall wellbeing to cut it out. I understand the difficulty of balancing it all but it's better to workout than skip it. I work full-time and take graduate courses. I also have a family. But I take time to work out because it's that important. I also do some volunteer work. I still have some free time but not much. I don't watch tv, except for some news before I leave for work.

No I think that at you age you shouldn't have any risk, but exercise its not only for physical health purposes but mental too. What I mean is that helps you to deal with the strees that you have at school. My suggestion, have a couple of basketball, tennis, soccer game a week, or walk when you can even if is just a couple of miles a week, eat properly, swim, play bowling, walk you dog twice a day or just go up and down in your stairs at home or at school, you will feel much relax and without the worries that you have now. No. You probably mean to ask do they get clogged arteries that lead to heart attacks, like what happens in people who eat too much saturated fat. It takes years and years for that to happen to people, ever hear of a 15yr old having bypass? More like 65 yr old. However, people food can cause pancreatitis which comes on very fast, is very painful and can kill your dog without fast (expensive) treatment. They can also get food poisoning which can be very nasty for them, and they can pass on salmonella to humans even if they don't get sick from it. Obviously, your dog is used to people food, so telling you to quit feeding it to her is not likely going to happen. Meet me half way and keep the meats, fats, skin and gravy away from her. Give her just the veggies. Just remember, no onions, grapes, raisins or chocolate. And please, no raw eggs.

Blood pressure in congestive heart failure actually typically increases because of the fluid that builds up in the cardiovascular system ahead of the heart because the heart isn't string enough to pump all of the blood forward. Blood pressure doesn't typically increase if you have a blocked artery unless it is a major artery.

CHF can increase BP (fluid accumulation), but generally pt's are on medication to keep it low. Lower BP decreases the workload on the heart so this is good for CHF patients. As far as the blocked artery it would really depend on the extent of the blockage and the artery that is involved.

BP is dependent upon the pumping pressure able to be generated by the heart, fluid/blood level in all the vessels, and pressure in the body's arterties that the heart has to pump the blood thru/against...complicated. The coronary arteries feed blood to the heart muscle itself, and a blockage there can effect the ability of the heart tissue/muscle to pump effectively. Before I looked at your subtext, my immediate thought was that I wouldn't waste too much time looking at causality on a general basis, though there are those who seem enamored of the idea of inflammatory markers in CHD. yeah it is a primary closure of the defect and post operative recovery is slow and needs lots of patience physiotherapy plays an important role in recovery but definetly worth the operation since the problem will go away all the best

I have congenital heart disease and there are many resources and message boards on the internet to speak with others who have children with similar heart problems and experiences. You can even search for yahoo groups that have members who discuss their children's diseases and how they cope. Now that I am an adult with the disease I go to www.achaheart.org.

Both my daughter and I were born with tetrology of fallot which is a defect that included a hole between the ventricles as well as a couple other things. We both had surgery. I was three, and she was four months. Children bounce back very well from surgery even quicker than adults. An ASD is a whole between the atria and is pretty common, most dont need surgery. But if surgery is needed, that repair is done quite often, As far as lifestyle, we have a normal life, I played softball and never felt any heart problems. If the ASD is repaired I cant see why not a person can have a normal active life. Some ASD's can be fixed in the cathlab, without the need of open heart surgery. It is relatively new and not all doctors know how to do it, but it may be something worth asking about. Best of luck

There is absolutely no reason to consider putting him down, as he really is just transitioning from being a kitten to being a cat, and you haven't even suggested what the cardiovascular problem is suspected. Maybe you were told if he doesn't lose weight, it could cause heart problems down the road. Maybe he has a murmur, which may mean little. There are a lot of "ifs", but your vet is the one to ask those questions to.

Well, first off he's going to be needing a diet to take the extra weight off. Vets have a special diet for cats who have heart problems. There is also medication as well. You need to discuss both with your cats vet. Never give a cat any medication with out discussing it with the vet.

Since heart disease varies from 'fair' to 'bad', it really depends on the degree he has it and the type. Euthenasia is not necessary for most of these cats. You should be talking with your vet about what level your cat is currently at, what the options are for treatment, and his long term chances. Most cats do fine till the very end. Getting some of his weight off would likely help. We lost one of ours to cardiomyopathy at age seven. He had a clean bill of health the year before, but over the course of 10 months his left ventricle wall thickened up so much his blood pressure dropped--we only saw results of that in the last 3 days, he was breathing a little hard, his chest was accumulating fluid at that point and pressing on the lungs

Its a long explanation but it all basically comes down to antioxidants neutralize free radicals. Free radicals are byproducts of metabolism and roam around the body damaging any cell it touches. When you have to many free radicals you begin to damage many cells which lead to diseases. Especially cancer which is by definition an uncontrolled cell duplication. Cells usually dupicate when one copy becomes damages..ie free radicals. This can turn out of control when the body is constantly duplicated cells at a high rate. Cancer ensues. Apoptosis is programmed cell death which the body usually does to cells that are damaged or deformed, when this fails it can begin duplicating the deformed cells causing diseases. The DNA in our chromosomes is subject to oxidation by free radicals; when they oxidize they lose telomeres, that is really reserve DNA matter for repair. Antioxidants is thought prevent the damage. Damaged DNA can prompt cellular apoptosis (cell death) or can in a way mutate and facilitate cancers or inflammation. Is a little more complicated but in a nutshell and very basic is what they do.

Because we use oxygen for energy production, our cells are constantly exposed to oxygen. Oxygen is a very 'toxic' molecule (think about rust on a nail caused by exposure to oxygen). Lots of people don't get any damage. Lots of people get a heart murmur that causes no problems. And, some get actual damage that causes problems that need to be monitored and treated.

Actually, there are not too many people who have rheumatic fever these days. But for those who have had it, it is a good idea to try to stick with the same physician, Keep good medical records that you can take with you if you move, and get regular check ups. The thing about rheumatic fever is that it can do a lot of damage to your heart valves. If you start out with a small murmur, they will monitor you. If it gets louder, they will order an echocardiogram to determine if your valve is beginning to fail. Catching the valve before it enlarges the chambers of your heart is crucial. They can fix it then. All of this is, of course, if you are one of the people whose rheumatic fever caused an issue with their heart. I believe it depends on the severity of the disease and the treatment of it. So don't panic. Just get the check ups, if the dr. says you have a murmur, ask for an echo. Good luck

Heart Disease and strokes aren't fun subjects. Don't try to hard to make it fun or they'll just laugh at you. Just be straight forward and intelligent. Also, if you keep it cold in the room none of them will fall asleep.

As far as stroke goes, if you can find a wheelchair you can place each student in it, have them pretend their right arm and leg can't move, they can't talk or use gestures, and they can't understand speech (earplugs work well for this.) Have them propel the wheelchair with no assistance and try to communicate solely by non-descript noises and facial expressions.. Another informational activity is to demonstrate how difficult it can be to speak and swallow after a stroke (this is probably more doable in a classroom setting, as it takes less time and is very dramatic). Have the students choose a partner. Give each student 2 tbsp of M&Ms and 1/2 cup of water. Instruct them not to eat the M&Ms, but to hold them in their mouth. Have them try to say a sentence, such as, "I had orange juice and cereal with milk for breakfast today". Have the partner rate the victim's speech intelligibility. Did the partner have speech that could be understood? If so, what percentage of the sentence did he/she understand? After the sentence task, have the kids try to drink the 1/2 cup of water. Don't be alarmed if some of them seem to choke; this is not putting them at risk. Heart attack can be simulated by having students lie down, then placing several books on the chest to simulate the symptom of chest pressure. Ask the students have ever had a toothache, indigestion, or pain in the upper arm, then explain any or all of these symptoms can be a harbinger of a heart attack. I want to write some fiction about a middle-aged woman that has some sudden severe heart trouble (preferably a heart attack) and then lives through that only to find out she has some serious and deadly heart condition that will require a transplant to avoid death. @Hazza. Thats a lie. He did take a lot of drugs, but he was clean for the last few years of his career. But yes. It was probably due to the drugs and alcohol. He had a serious problem. He was in a serious car accident, he would drink all the time, and took a lot of pain killers. Of course this was around 2000? He was released by WWF, and his wife, Vickie left him, so he resorted to getting off the drugs and alcohol and was clean since. Then WWF rehired him after he went to rehab and its probably why he got the push and eventually winning the tag, US, and World title. Then Vickie and Eddie got remarried because he dealt with his problem. So he was clean during his last few years. But, there was so much of the drugs and alcohol in his system, its still got the best of him. That just proves that if you start using it and stop, it will still remains in your body. One of the reasons why his death was so emotional because everyone knew he had fought his demons, but still died. And if you combine alcohol and pills, your going to get a heart problem, which is why they always recommend to not consume both at the same time. So I believe, that he did take painkillers and drank at the same time, which was the cause of his heart disease.

They can bring your blood pressure down with medications, but so can you with deep meditation. I showed my brother how to drop his 10-15 points in about 2 minutes. You basically self-hypnotize yourself into a restful place -- if you like the water, then see yourself floating on it with a clear sky, maybe the twinkling of stars and a cheshire moon at dusk; you are warm and comfortable, but you are floating on the water. In control. It is the peace you create that will lower the BP. I had a heart attack 6 years ago. I weighed 128 at 5'3" and cholesterol of 180 with bp of 110/80 or so -- absolutely no reason to have an attack, except genetics... my dad's side. He died at age 77 of heart failure. I take care of myself, have my regular 6 months check-ups; take vytorin and plavix. I had a surgery where they put a stent in a clogged artery. The pains I was having before were angina, they were gone. The pains you are having are a precursor to a heart attack; angina is a warning -- so get to a cardiologist and get the medications you need to take care of your heart. It does not shorten your life span if you take care of your body. No smoking, exercise, take your meds, eat right, all is etc., etc., etc. ... If you do not take care of the angina now, then it will certainly shorten your life expectancy if you have a lot of clogged arteries... it might just end it.t

Did your Dr put you on medication? Anyhow wait until Saturday when you see your Doctor again.. There are many different treatments out there. Also things you can do to better your health. For instance be active, eat healthier, drink less alcohol (if your a drinker) but more importantly follow through with your health provider.. Hope this helps and hang in there

WHICH heart disease? "Heart disease" is a pretty general term used to describe any medical problem with the heart. There are 35 different heart defects; Endocarditis (infection of the heart valves usually caused by bacteria); clogged arteries, heart failure, congestive heart failure (they are NOT the same thing!) heart attacks, high blood pressure, and there have to be at least six more I can't think of at the moment.

I do take blood-pressure medication, which seems fairly effective at maintaining a level of blood-pressure that does not exceed the parameters that are medically defined as normal. In long term, it is hard to tell since you have blood controlled medication as well. That is smart. Only a heart doctor could answer that question, but it you won't be taking this your whole life, I wouldn't worry about it.

There is a lot to find about adderall and its side effects if you google for it on the net. Although you can find a lot of info, i would advise you to consult your doctor who prescribed you the meds to see if the 'mixing' of the medicines you are taking can be the cause of the seemingly controlled blood pressure. The most recent concerns about heart problems and prescriptions amphetamines center around the fact that there have been rare reports of "sudden death" episodes (probably due to severe irregular heartbeats) in patients who were taking prescription amphetamines. There is NO actual proof that the amphetamines caused the episodes (these types of rare sudden death episodes also happen to people who don't take prescription amphetamines). In fact, in most of the cases, the patients either had some form of congenital heart defect or there was some other factor that could of contributed (severe dehydration in one case). Based on that information, there is no evidence so far that high blood pressure is a risk factor for sudden death episodes in patients taking prescription amphetamines. The more important thing to watch is that your blood pressure stays under control. Either way, discussing the risks with your actual doctor is always the right answer

I am not sure if you want information on all heart disease or just this. I will try to help though. Ischemic heart disease can also be referred to as coronary artery disease, angina and heart attacks. People can have heart disease and not have symptoms also. Hello, I'm so sorry you have to deal w/this @so young an age. You didn't provide enough info to give an opinion. Why were you in CHF? Which valve is causing the murmur, & how bad was the echo? The good indication here, is that your Doctor isn't worried. If he/she thought you were going into failure again. You wouldn't be put off for a week. If your shortness of breath worsens, your weight increases (fluid retention: check your ankles), &/or you feel chest discomfort. Call them back, & tell them. You can be short of breath for a lot of reasons. I hope you feel better soon.

i have terrible pain in my thumb and right knee dr gace me arcoxia but i heard you can get heart disease or embolia in the long run is there any alternative medicine or remedy to treat it?

try the PAU LINIMENT it is good for the arthritis
