I want to write some fiction about a middle-aged woman that has some sudden severe heart trouble (preferably a heart attack) and then lives through that only to find out she has some serious and deadly heart condition that will require a transplant to avoid death. Prior to all of this, the woman was very healthy by all appearances. Had just a little manageable hypertension, but didn't smoke, nor did she have a cholesterol problem, and she was not overweight. Can anyone give me a condition or so that fits all of that criteria? Thanks so much in advance!

if she required a heart transplant, she would have some major symptoms most likely. Unless the heart attack caused like severe damage that made the heart unable to work, then maybe she would need a heart transplant.

Ventricular fibrillation would make a good attack. People often fall over unconscious and wake up on their own, if they survive it. I believe dilated cardiomyopathy can sometimes need a heart transplant and can cause ventricular fibrillation. Before this she may have noticed light cases of shortness of breath but passed it off as being out of shape.

A viral infection can damage the heart to the point of needing a heart transplant; try searching for viral myocarditis
