There are a lot of books out there about using low-fat, whole-foods, plant-based diets to reverse heart disease. Look for books by Caldwell Esselstyn, Dean Ornish, John McDougall, Joel Fuhrman, and Neal Barnard -- I believe they each have books with recipes and meal plans. Vitamins and other supplements are a little bit controversial. Generally, it is best to get them through a well-balanced diet, but vegans should be sure they get extra vitamin B12

Is grape juice really good for heart disease

Is grape juice really good for heart disease?
There have been reports that the antioxidant content of grape juice may help fight heart disease, is that true?

yes very true. green tea is also a good source of antioxidants, also dark chocolate.
2 :
So I hear. You'd have to drink an awful lot of it to do any significant good though.
3 :
Nonalcoholic grape juice is heart-friendly, raising levels of HDL ("good") cholesterol. See fully study reported in an article on WebMD by Miranda Hitti http://www.webmd.com/cholesterol-management/news/20041119/grape-juice-raises-good-cholesterol-levels

HDL is the good, LDL is the bad. Try web.md theres plenty of info there. HDL is raise by exercise, omega oil. LDL is from saturated animal fat. You also need to know your triglycerides, these are fats that come from carbohydrates

Does high cholesterol need to be present to have heart disease

Does high cholesterol need to be present to have heart disease?
And what about high blood pressure? If you don't have either, could you still have heart disease?

both are contributors to heart disease
2 :
not necessarily too much work can give you a heart attack, a big bad depression etc etc.....
3 :
both of them raises the risk but even if you are very healthy you can still get a heart disease, my gym teacher who was very ealthy died 3 month ago becouse of a heart attack
4 :
There are several different types of heart disease that stem from several different causes. High blood pressure and high cholesterol are two factors that can contribute to heart disease, but they are not the only factors. Diabetes, high stress, and smoking are other factors. No one single factor (other than congenital heart disease) will necessarily mean heart problems, nor will the absence of all risk factors guarantee freedom from heart problems.
5 :
If you have a heart, Then you are at risk of a heart attack. The more bad things you have, the better your chances, except in the rare cases of extremely healthy athletes falling over dead from a heart attack. They fall into the category of having a heart.
6 :
High cholesterol predisposes a person to HTN (medical abbreviation for Hypertention or high blood pressure). No, high cholesterol does NOT need to be present to have a heart disease. Heart diseases vary in forms, severity, and causes. If one does not have high cholesterol or high blood pressure, one still can have heart disease. Heart disease can be congenital, meaning one has it since the date they were born. Pregnant women who have certain diseases can cause heart disease in their newborn(s). Some causes of heart diseases: Smoking High fat diet Alcohol Streptococcus infection (signs and symptomps: red, swelling, difficulty swallowing), pus (yellow liquid) in the throat=> left untreated can cause Rheumatic Fever- infection of the heart and other causes that I dont know _____________ _______________
7 :
You don't have to have any risk factors for heart disease to have an attack but obviously the less factors you have the lower the risk.

This Patient Guide is written for the loved ones of heart patients who are dealing with the short-term stress that comes with a test, procedure or recent diagnosis of heart disease. It explains why support is so important to a loved one with heart disease. It also offers practical strategies on how to support a loved one while also taking care of yourself.
9 :
Yes you could have or get heart disease with or without those said risk factors. American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology identify 5 risk factors for heart disease, coronary heart disease, those are: Family history Diabetes Smoking High Blood Pressure High Cholesterol If you have the genetic disposition to have heart disease, what you eat, how you conduct the other risk factors, and whether or not you exercise, won't start or stop heart disease. They only contribute to it getting worse or better.

This website provides a useful information of "How To Lower Cholesterol". It benefit my brother a lot. Hope you find it useful. Can't imagine, my brother has a high cholesterol and he is only 26 years old. http://www.artcademy.biz/how%20to%20lowe...

Being obese increases the bad cholesterol levels in the blood. At least 4 days of exercise is necessary to maintain a good cholesterol level. Lowering bad cholesterol is very necessary for a healthy body. Exercises like Tai Chi and Yoga have proved to be beneficial in promoting good cholesterol in the body. Deep breathing and stretching exercises helps the blood flow to all parts of the body. Meditation helps in preventing hardening of the arteries. If proper food and exercise is maintained then the cholesterol levels could come down drastically. http://www.askaquery.com/Answers/qn499.html

Do you believe 98% of heart disease could be prevented through lifestyle changes

Do you believe 98% of heart disease could be prevented through lifestyle changes?
According to some reputable nutritional researchers, 98% of the cases of heart disease could be prevented and even reversed by serious changes to diet and exercise. I've read the studies (demographic & human & animal research) going back at much as 30 years. Do you believe this is possible? What would convince you one way or the other?

Nutrition is the key to many health issues. Reading many studies on homocysteine (amino acid in the blood) opened my eyes to the cholesterol myth. It was discovered that children who suffered from homocysterinua (genetic condition causing high homocysteine levels from birth) were having heart attacks and strokes before the age of 10. Their hearts looked like a 60 year old on autopsy. Homocysteine levels are high from poor lifestyle choices and poor diet but especially from vitamin B6, B12 and folate deficiency. And from personal experience my chest pain went away from taking vitamin B12. My own mothers chest pain and many episodes of angina pain went away with mega doses of vitamin B. This amino acid is the crystal ball of life expectancy. That it is not well known is because it makes no money but cholesterol lowering drugs do. Homocysteine: http://www.squidoo.com/homocysteine-hcy Google books - Homocysteine: http://books.google.com.au/books?id=o7ZFv772leYC&printsec=frontcover&dq=homocysteine&hl=en&ei=31m7S_r3FovYsQOEkfneBA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=9&ved=0CFYQ6AEwCA#v=onepage&q=&f=false

I think this is possible. You can reduce your risk for most heart problems through diet and exercise. Hypertension, atherosclerosis, anything that is not congenital or hereditary, and even hereditary problems can be avoided as best as possibly with diet and exercise.
3 :
your heart is working extra hard as it is not getting the appropriate

98%? Im not qualified to agree or disagree on that but what about genetics? I do beleive a hige ammount of heart diease could be prevented by eating a healthy diet and exercising regulary not only heart diesse but almost all diseases. I beleive the only way to make this a reality is through education schools( from primary up) should have classes to educate people on how to eat and keep fit. In a lot of countrys the govements say they do not have the money to do this but in the long term it would save so much money by not having to spend so much in health care on preventable diesses i beleive until they realise this we are in a viscious cycle.

Everyone seems to be on the same page on this - and they are correct. There is one thing, however, on a deeper level that people overlook, but is the most important stepping stone in the puzzle. The medical community doesn't place enough importance on water, so it's no surprise that people are uneducated on the subject. Water isn't just a thirst quencher - it's one of the two most important elements in the body. The other one - believe it or not - is salt. Space prevents me from fully explaining the important functions of water and salt, but click on the link below. You may learn a few things your doctor never told you about.
6 :
"Bco4th6t..."'s answer is a good one, but Dr. Batmanghelidj is incorrect in a few things regarding water. He needed to emphasize the need for electrolytes from the correct kind of salt to be part of the hydration process in regard to the heart. Air dried sea salt is the correct salt to consume and it is important to get this kind of salt to allow the stomach to produce good HCL. The chloride ion used to make HCL comes from salt primarily. The air dried sea salt has a good balance of the potassium & chloride ions that is important. 1921 was the first reported case of myocardial infarction in the United States. Diet is the primary reason all that changed. Absolutely, no doubt about it, a dietary change in what people eat will have a profound effect on heart disease. The problem is that not only the type of food that eaten, but where and how the food is grown is important parts of this equation. Just put bad oil and bad gasoline in your car and see how long it lasts. Same idea. "Red Angel" is also correct in regard to part of the puzzle. Homocystein proteins are generated as a result of the deficiencies of vitamin B-6, B-12, and Folic Acid. These bad guys create "sticky blood" and "sticky arterial walls." That encourages plaque build up and inflammation spots where cholesterol delivers fatty acids to make the repairs. Eating diets high in GRAINS, SUGAR, and CORNSTARCH ensures the increase in pattern B LDL cholesterol that contributes to the plaque menu of things that is difficult for HDL cholesterol to remove. Eliminating those 3 foods will eliminate the pattern B LDL and give a person great LDL cholesterol that now becomes good cholesterol. The other thing that contributes greatly to this problem is the nanobacteria that gets into the body as a result of LOW STOMACH acid. Antacids being prescribed at a horrendous rate contribute to this bad guy and a lot of damage to the body, especially the arterial walls around the heart, kidneys, and pancreas. This bacteria bores into the layers of the arteries around the heart and calcium follows the blood trails and surrounds the bacteria creating hardening of the arteries. By making sure you have adequate HCL, a diet high in fermented foods, good cholesterol numbers (men = 200 -240 total), and (women = 240 - 300 total), along with good LDL numbers with the correct ratio of pattern A to pattern B (minimal "B") of 160 to 170, and HDL numbers between 50 - 60, this would create a very healthy profile for longevity. Further by reducing the high omega 6 fatty acid containing foods and encouraging high omega 3 fatty acid foods that have good 3 to 6 ratios, will also help greatly. Getting rid of the misinformation that drug companies are promoting regarding the cholesterol myth would be very helpful as well to get people on the right track to good health in regard to their heart. Eliminating the statin drugs would go a long way to helping heart patients as well. Yes, I believe diet could, did, and can do again help erase heart disease. It is not magic, just good science as opposed to what is being done today by the medical community that is promoting an agenda that is very destructive by using drugs as a solution. good luck to you

If you always have good normal, low blood pressure, are you likely absent of heart disease

If you always have good normal, low blood pressure, are you likely absent of heart disease?
I've been monitoring my BP for the past few months. My overall average is 118/76, normal. I know there are other factors for having heart disease, but isn't it normally indicative of a good strong normal heart? I do get daily papiltations, but have had those for years. They freak me out, last about 5 seconds, but never any pain.

Like most things concerned with your health there are two main components. Your life style and your heritage. So, if you think you are in good shape thats grand. But, you really should know your families medical history.
2 :
If your blood pressure is normal, as yours is, then your likelihood of getting heart disease is less than that of a person who suffers from high blood pressure.
3 :
Likely absent, yes. Absolutely absent, absolutely not. I had BP readings like that when I was admitted to the hospital for 5 weeks due to heart disease. Are those palpitations trying to tell you something? There is such a thing as a silent heart attack (no pain). Get it checked out.
4 :
Think of your heart as a house. In order for your heart to be in good working order, you need many system to be in order. The plumbing system is like the veins and arteries that bring blood to the heart. The electrical system is like the electrical system that controls the rhythm of your heart. The muscle of you heart is like the walls that provide strength and support to your heart.(cause blood pressure). Just like when your electricity has a problem, that doesn't mean your plumbing is bad, but if left untreated it will certainly affect other systems. Palpitations are related to problems with the electrical system and left untreated make cause problems to other parts of your heart. The first thing to do is to identify the irregular heart rhythm that is causing the palpitations. Any Dr. can order a test called event recorder or holter monitor which will record you heart beat during episodes of palpitations. Once they have that information, palpitations can be treated or you can be refered to a Cardiologist or Electrophysiologist if needed. Depending on the irregular rhythm, palpitions can be any where from little concern to potentially fatal and should be evaluated.
5 :
This is not true at all, yes it is good to have normal blood pressure, but you can also have a heart attack from palpitation's which are electrical rhythms, there are different types , a-fibs, d- fibs, all can be deadly .Low blood pressure does not in any way shape or form guarantee you will not have a heart problem, the source of the palpatations must be found by wearing a 24 hour moniter
