Does caffeinism add a significant risk of heart disease

Does caffeinism add a significant risk of heart disease?
I have a fast heart rate, and my maternal grandfather has had 2 heart attacks (although he survived them). Would an addiction to caffeine add significantly to my risk of heart disease?
Heart Diseases - 1 Answers

Caffeine can cause rhythm disturbances and can exacerbate any preexisting heart conditions that cause rhythm disturbances themselves. Caffeine can increase the risk of a heart attack in older people or people with clogged arteries. Eliminating caffeine from your diet wouldnt hurt at all anyway. You can get energy from food without the cardiac stimulating effects of caffeine

Foods That prevent or lower the risk of Heart Disease

Foods That prevent or lower the risk of Heart Disease?
What are good types of food that are available at any grocery store not just 'organic' or 'whole food markets' that would help prevent heart disease, maybe keep plaque/platelets from forming or possibly help remove the plaque that is already in the arteries.

Hey there, Here are the basics: 1. Soy foods: According to the FDA, eating 6.25 grams of soy protein per day will lower bad cholesterol by up to 10%. For every 1% it lowers bad cholesterol, the risk of heart disease drops by 2%. Eat things like tofu, soy protein isolate (powder), soy milk, soy beans, meat alternative products and soy nuts. 2. Soluble fiber: Soluble fiber lowers total cholesterol. It basically carries the cholesterol buildup out of your blood vessels. You can find it in things like brown rice, oats and bran. 3. Fatty fish: Fatty fish like salmon, tuna and mackerel have Omega-3 fatty acids, DHA and EPA. They're good for lots of things but they are known for reducing the risk of heart disease by lowering cholesterol. You can also take a fish oil supplement, too. One to three grams per day will do it. Read the article below about how to reduce the side effects of fish oil supplements. 4. Healthy fats: Eat fats that are liquid at room temperature. Those are the unsaturated fats. Olive and canola oil are easy to cook with and taste great. Healthy fats raise HDL (good cholesterol) which is more important than lowering total cholesterol. Those are the major categories (and examples) of foods to eat to lower your total cholesterol, raise good cholesterol and reduce heart disease risk.

High blood cholesterol level increases your risk of coronary artery disease. Reducing dietary cholesterol and fats helps to keep blood cholesterol levels within a healthy range. is there a difference between coronary heart disease, heart disease and coronary disease

is there a difference between coronary heart disease, heart disease and coronary disease ?
if coronary = heart why do we have terms like "coronary heart disease"?
Other - Diseases - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Coronary disease refers to disease of the coronary arteries (which supply the heart with blood) while heart disease could refer to a wide variety of conditions, such as an enlarged heart or an arrythmia.
2 :
"Coronary" refers to the two arterial blood supply arteries of the heart. Therefore, any person who has been diagnosed as having coronary heart disease has a disease involving the arterial blood supply to the heart muscle. In this case the most common associated diagnosis is atherosclerosis...clogging of the arteries. A diagnosis of "heart disease" may include coronary heart disease, but it is not limited to that. Their are other diseases like cardiomyopathy, cardiomegaly, heart failure, heart valvular disease, heart rhythm diseases like persistent atrial fibrillation, sick sinus disease, ventral septal defect, etc.

What are the four major factors that are known to increase the risk of coronory heart disease

What are the four major factors that are known to increase the risk of coronory heart disease.?
What is coronary heart disease?
Heart Diseases - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
If you go to the link provided, you will find that there are more than 4. Mostly it is what we put into our bodies everyday that make the difference.
2 :
"Coronary" just means 'of the heart,' so usually, when people say 'coronary heart disease,' they mean coronary artery disease, or ischaemic heart disease. The heart is a muscle and it needs a blood supply to work. Coronary/ ischaemic heart disease results when the arteries, (blood vessels), supplying the heart with blood become clogged and narrowed with fatty plaques, (atheroma). This leads to not enough blood getting to the heart muscle and this can cause angina. If an artery gets blocked completely, usually due to a blood clot forming on the fatty plaque or the plaque breaking off, then no blood at all gets to part of the heart muscle and this causes a heart attack, or myocardial infarction. When this happens, part of the heart muscle dies, because it did not have any blood at all for a period of time. The main risk factors are smoking diabetes being male high blood pressure high cholesterol level advancing age family history of ischaemic heart disease I am not sure of the order of importance of these risk factors. Hope this helps. Ischaemic means not getting enough oxygen- blood is needed to carry the oxygen. Myocardial means of the heart muscle. Infarction means a complete cutting off of the blood/ oxygen supply.
3 :
There are many factors that can increase your risk of coronary heart disease. They are divided into 2 categories preventable and non-preventable. The non-preventable risk factors are being a male, heredity (having a family history of coronary heart disease) Diabetes, , Tobacco use. The preventable risk factors are uncontrolled hypertension, diabetes mellitus, high cholesterol, physical inactivity, and obesity.

diet, inactivity, genetics, and smoking...

major causes of heart disease: high/low blood pressure (hypertension/hypotension) high cholestrol high fatty build up heriditary extremely high stress levels since childhood plaque build upds Diabetic patients are closely linked to heart patients. So high sugar levels may be another cause. Rheumatic fever/heart disease is a form of cardiovascular disease. Rheumatic fever/heart disease iss an inflammatory disease which may develop two to three weeks after a Group A streptococcal infection (such as strep throat or scarlet fever). It is believed to be caused by antibody cross-reactivity and can involve the heart, joints, skin, and brain. THEY ARE BOTH THE SAME THING.

Does smoking increase the risk of heart disease? Why is smoking rampant in France

Does smoking increase the risk of heart disease? Why is smoking rampant in France?
What part does smoking play in causing or increasing the risk of heart disease? Why do so many people in France smoke?
Heart Diseases - 3 Answers

1 :
Why is smoking even legal? Oh right, because the government makes a heap of money off of the taxes.
2 :
Smokers have an increased risk of forming blood clots, which in turn causes serious circulation problems. They also have artery clogs, which are not a total blockage but a gradual build up of fat deposits. Both clots and clogs can have a serious effect upon one's health. The heart has to work harder to overcome these negative effects, which means that it requires more oxygen. This is where carbon monoxide does a number on the oxygen in the blood. So it needs more oxygen, but it has less oxygen. A vicious circle that perpetuates into a nasty situation for the smoker. Heart disease has received a lot of attention and funding through the years. Breast Cancer wasn't even talked about in polite circles 30 years ago. Many factors in heart disease are controlled by the person: diet, exercise, smoking, drinking, etc. Breast cancer has no such factors. WIth relationship to the NFL, it probably has something to with the commissioner losing his mother to breast cancer

what is the most precise procedure to the detect the heart disease

what is the most precise procedure to the detect the heart disease?
hi everyone, please tell me what is the most precise procedure to detect the heart problem??? i have heard of the 2D echo machine used by cardiologists..which is more precise??? my sister is experiencing chest pain?? she has already undergo X-ray, ECG but still her disease didnt detected...until now she is experiencing chest pain.. what is the most effective way/procedures to determine if she has disease or not... thank you!!!

The following tests should be conducted. * Cardiac stress test. * Stress Echocardiography. * Nuclear stress test /Thallium stress test.
2 :
Probably a chest x-ray to start. Then an Echocardiogram, ultrasound of the heart, will show structure and functions of the valves, will show any leakage if any. An EKG or ECG show the electrical conduction of the heart. The Dr may consider doing a heart catherization to see if any blood vessels are block if any.
3 :
Most doctors would sensibly stop investigation after a normal echo and a normal stress test

Yes, be educated on what the risk factors are and avoid them. Early detection is key as well. Medicine has come a long way in diagnosis and treatment. Just keep informed of what is going on with you, with regular check ups and lifestyle choices. You'll be OK Funny_cat25
2 :
there is. keep yourself healthy. try not to put stress on those things so much. if it is your time to leave this world, there's nothing we could do. make the most out of everything. try not to get too close to carcinogens, increase immunity by taking in vitamin C daily, eat veggies, fruits, not so much on the carbs and fats. exercise 3-4 times weekly. stick to anti-oxidants.=) if ever you are anemic, take in iron supplements or unless directed by your doctor. as much as possible, consult your doctor to check if you have any symptoms/signs of heart diseases or cancer. early detection will provide early cure. =)
3 :
people who die of 'heart attacks' often die because the shock of their heart stopping causes their lungs to collapse. if you have a strong history of heart complications - as you seem to - it is probably going to cost you a few years of your life. but if you do your best to ensure that your pulmonary system and yout circulation both stay in good condition (light but regular aerobic exercises, keeping your weight under control, and most of all never smoking) you stand a good chance of making it into an early old age rather than popping off in your forties or fifties. up until the nineteenth century relatively few people survived into their seventies. even with your poor health inheritance you stand a very good chance of leading a life which is long enough and full enough if you take moderate care of yourself. (how old was william shakespeare when he died? did he manage to fit a reasonably full life in?0
4 :
Just as everyone else above has said, just stay healthy. You may have to sacrifice eating unhealthy foods but it may mean a longer happier life for you. Read! You can find information about everything if you read. Find ways to prevent heart disease if you can. My family has a history of dibetes, so I know how it feels to think there's nothing you can do to avoid getting this horrible thing and die from it. When it's your time to go, it's your time to go. So, pray and live your life to the fullest.
5 :
I do not what medical expert will say about this matter. I now my grandfather (mother's side) had the same problem but lived to 104 years old but died from the cat rabies. What he did was always stay active and watch the food he is eating. He concentrated his diet on vegetables and fish and stayed active (not to the point of exhaustion) as if he did not now his health problem.
6 :
I come from a family history of heart disease;both of my grandfathers,my father,an uncle, some aunts died of heart disease. My brother was diagnosed with heart disease. My father's mother died of tuberculosis;his brother died of a brain tumor. My dad lived longer than all his family members but he lived to be 75.My doctor told me to stay away from high sodium foods at an early age because too much sodium raises blood pressure which is bad for the heart.Eating foods like fruits and vegetables, whole wheat pastas, lower fat dairy products, lean meats and exercising will help your health. My maternal grandfather had congestive heart failure and did all of those thing;he lived to be 88 years old...he lived for 10 years with heart disease and stayed independent until the day he died

Is heart disease one of the factors of getting sleep deprivation

Is heart disease one of the factors of getting sleep deprivation?
I had been diagnosed that I have a heart disease.Soon I'm able to stay up for about a week.I lose my weight around 10 pounds. When I didn't sleep for 3 days then I'll get a very terrible headache.Plus I also having hallucination. How to prevent me from not to sleep?I'm tired.
Other - General Health Care - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Just some suggestions. Stress and worry over your heart condition will cause you lack of sleep. That you are having headaches and hallucinations is no surprise. That is all lack of sleep. Find out everything you can about your heart condition. You must already know the exact cause (at least you should) so you should sit down and have a long talk with your doctor. Ask any questions you may have about the exact cause and what steps you can take to prevent further heart problems. It is good that you have lost some weight. That is a step in the right direction. (assuming you were not thin to begin with) The next step is nutrition. Eat less foods that contain sugar and fat. Same with liquids. No whole milk, milkshakes or heavily sweetened "juice" drinks. No fried foods. More fiber and liquids such as water, tea or real fruit juices. More fruits and vegetables and whole grain cereals. Discuss with your doctor the possibility of starting an exercise program. After you have done all this you should take satisfaction that you are doing all you can to live a heart healthy life. That alone should reduce some of that stress and worry. Try taking an herbal such as Melatonin or just a non-prescription antihistamine. The side effect of most antihistamines is to make you sleepy. The non-prescription sleep medication Unisom is just an antihistamine. If need be ask your doctor about a prescription sleep medication to take for a few days. Prescription sleep medications can be habit forming so use them with caution and only for as short a period as reasonable. Good luck to you

The S-T segment Flat, downsloping, or depressed ST segments may indicate coronary ischemia (deficient blood supply). Coronary artery disease is suggested by horizondality, plane depression or sagging of the S-T segment, particularly in Standard lead II and leads V5 and V6. Coronary artery disease involves impairment of blood flow through the coronary arteries, most commonly by atheromas. Clinical presentations include silent ischemia, angina pectoris, acute coronary syndromes (unstable angina, MI), and sudden cardiac death. Diagnosis is by symptoms, ECG, stress testing, and sometimes coronary angiography. Prevention consists of modifying reversible risk factors (eg, hypercholesterolemia, physical inactivity, smoking). Treatment includes drugs and procedures to reduce ischemia and restore or improve coronary blood flow. * Blood pressure. Get your blood pressure checked every visit. (Target: Below 130/80 mm Hg) * Cholesterol -Get your LDL (bad cholesterol) levels checked at least once a year. (Target: Below 100 mg/dL). Triglycerides. (Target: Less than 150 mg/dL) Serum Cholesterol (Target: Less than 200 mg/dL) HDL (good cholesterol) (Target: More than 50 mg/dL) Eat a low-cholesterol, low-fat diet. This kind of diet includes cottage cheese, fat-free milk, fish (not canned in oil), vegetables, poultry, egg whites, and polyunsaturated oils and margarines (corn, safflower, canola, and soybean oils). Avoid foods with excess fat in them such as meat (especially liver and fatty meat), egg yolks, whole milk, cream, butter, shortening, lard, pastries, cakes, cookies, gravy, peanut butter, chocolate, olives, potato chips, coconut, cheese (other than cottage cheese), coconut oil, palm oil, and fried foods. * Stop tobacco smoking. * Stop consuming alcohol. * Glucose (Sugar) test. Control your blood glucose & do self-monitoring as & when required. (Target: Fasting blood sugar 60-100 mg/dL; Postprandial blood sugar 2 hours after food-Less than 140 mg/dL) * Health life style. Exercise regularly & stay healthy. *Obesity - In obese subjects, losing a kilogram of mass generally reduces blood pressure by 2 mmHg. (Abdominal circumference should be less than 100 cms) *Avoid worry and stress. Please see the web pages for more details on ECG and Coronary artery disease.
3 :
non-st segment depression are just it, non-specific, these are electrical signals from the heart which nobody ( not even the cardiologist ) knows its meaning, they usually correlate it clinically for symptoms and they run other test to make sure its really benign... it does not mean you will be prone to heart disease in the future, it also does not mean you will be free from heart disease in the future... like i said it does mean anything...if you are assymptomatic, and your other test ( stress test, 2D echo of the heart ) are normal, then dont worry about it. P.S. dont you have a doctor in your area who interprets all these lab results to you ?
4 :
Patients have ST depression/elevation for a variety of reasons...certain meds can cause a "swoop" of the ST, and marked difference of the ST can signify damage to a part of the heart, usually from a MI(myocardial infarction, or heart attack)...but Unspecified ST doesn't necessarily signify anything. Unless your Doctor or Cardiologist has told you otherwise, strenuous activities shouldn't be much of a problem. Of all of the things that could be abnormal on an EKG, this is one of the minor ones, especially since it is unspecified, or non-specific as it is sometimes referred to.Good Luck

The primary cause of heart disease is processed foods. Inflammation is the "root cause" and NOT cholesterol. 85% of the Cholesterol found in the body is made in the liver. It is used as a "TRANSPORTER" of fatty acids that cause inflammation and repair inflammation and that is the natural healing process in the body. Also, cholesterol is used in the process of creating vitamin B3 in the skin when UVB rays from the sun are absorbed by the sun's rays. Eating foods high in Omega 6 fatty acids, like vegetable oils, hydrogenated oils, fried foods, trans fats, all contribute to inflammation in the body and this causes heart disease. Taking antacids allows nanobacteria to have free reign in the body and these bacteria do NOT show up on typical lab tests. This bacteria is responsible or attacking the kidney, pancreas, and arteries around the heart. It has been shown to be the primary cause of heart disease and is found in processed foods, as well as cooked foods. Antacids destroy the stomach acid that kills this bacteria. (Thank you doctors). Acid indigestion happens when Lactic Acid forms from rotting, putrefying food that happens when there is a LACK OF STOMACH ACID, NOT too much. A good quality digestive system is one of your best defenses against heart disease and taking antacids of ANY kind is very destructive of this whole process. good luck to you

Ramadic ????? If you have any type of heart disease than you would of been given a diet before you left the hospital or doctor's office. The doctor could of even sent you to classes to get you going on the right track. If you really have a problem but never heard of ramadic than go back to your doctor and ask him for help.
2 :
Try the South Beach Diet website. They're not really a low carb diet but a "better" carb diet. Incorporates "healthy" carbs. Whole grains, fruits and veggies. Your low carb stuff is typically your proteins which is your high fat! Your doctor should have a list of stuff that is good for you to eat. Get that and then create some recipes of your own.

How does salt lead to Hypertension & Heart Disease

How does salt lead to Hypertension & Heart Disease?

Salt consumption leads water retention. That excess water increases stress on the circulatory system.
2 :
it retains fluids in the tissues which in turn causes your heart to pump harder, resulting in high blood pressure. The recommended amout per day is 1 teaspoon, but American use up to two and more just from processed foods let alone what they add

Consult your doctor.
2 :
Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome (WPW) is a syndrome of pre-excitation of the ventricles of the heart due to an accessory pathway known as the Bundle of Kent. This accessory pathway is an abnormal electrical communication from the atria to the ventricles. The incidence of WPW syndrome is between 0.1 and 3% of the general population.[1][2][3] While the vast majority of individuals with WPW syndrome remain asymptomatic throughout their entire lives, there is a risk of sudden death associated with the syndrome. Sudden death due to WPW syndrome is rare (incidence of less than 0.6%[3][4]), and is due to the effect of the accessory pathway on tachyarrhythmias in these individuals. DON'T TAKE THE MEDICATION BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE HARMFUL SIDE EFFECTS. U SHOULD TALK TO UR DOCTOR FIRST BUT I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND IT!!!
3 :
Wolf Parkinson White is a heart disease that affects rythm. Depending on the medication, it can worsen your arrythmia. Ask a cardiologist.
4 :
It's a defect, not a disease in the true sense, but it depends on the medication. You did not state what the medication is. You can call a pharmacist for free, if that is your concern, and they can tell you if it's contraindicated. However, without a medication, don't expect a reliable answer.
5 :
yes, WPW is considered a type of heart disease... no, I would not take this medicine without asking your MD...

Why does sodium contribute to heart disease

Why does sodium contribute to heart disease?
Specifically what is the biological effect of too much sodium that leads to heart disease?
Heart Diseases - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
sodium attracts water. if there is too much sodium in the body, water retention can occur which could lead to hypervolemia (fluid overload). this is particularly stressful for the heart, because it would need to pump harder. patients with congestive heart failure are mostly affected by this.
2 :
In a complex way, increased salt intake causes more fluid to be retained in the blood vessels. This increased volume of blood requires the heart to work harder to pump blood to all the tissues in the body. Increasing the blood̢۪s volume within the enclosure of the circulatory system is one way that salt increases blood pressure. Salt may also help elevate blood pressure through the action of the arterioles. Arterioles are blood vessels that dilate and constrict to regulate blood pressure and blood flow. By contracting under the influence of sodium, arterioles effectively increase the resistance to blood movement and lessen the volume of blood that is returned to the heart. This action also increases blood pressure. The body needs sodium but not in excess

Why is there a heart disease awareness month for women but not for men

Why is there a heart disease awareness month for women but not for men?
Does this mean that everyone is just focused on womens health and no one is focused on men?? What if a man dies from heart disease?? Does anyone even care?? Is there any research being done on mens health or does everyone ignore mens health and laugh if they get heart disease??
Heart Diseases - 4 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Of course people care that men get heart disease too. The reason there's a month focused on women's heart disease is because it's the number one killer of women.
2 :
Women are neglected if and when they succumb to heart attack. They are not fetched to the hospital for treatment at the proper time. Women and older patients experience atypical symptoms more frequently than their male and younger counterparts. Women also have more symptoms compared to men (2.6 on average vs 1.8 symptoms in men). The most common symptoms of MI in women include dyspnea, weakness, and fatigue. Fatigue, sleep disturbances, and dyspnea have been reported as frequently occurring symptoms which may manifest as long as one month before the actual clinically manifested ischemic event. In women, chest pain may be less predictive of coronary ischemia than in men. World Heart Day is celebrated by World Heart Federation on September 27th every year. Begun in 1999 with the vision that all World Heart Federation members could collectively help to curb the global pandemic of cardiovascular disease, which claims some 17.5 million lives world-wide annually, World Heart Day is now celebrated by members and non-members alike in more than 100 countries around the world.
3 :
If you properly now about heart disease you must read this site and ads http://medicaladv.blogspot.com/
4 :
Women have higher rates of this disease and their "awareness" programs are more profitable if they target women, however, a bigger issue is the fact that these "awareness" campaigns are money making scams to fund drug company research. They make lots of money for drug company research, but they fail to spread "awareness of the cause of heart disease." Almost every case of heart disease can be prevented and even reversed through dramatic changes to diet and lifestyle. Dr. Dean Ornish has shown that heart disease can be reversed through a low-fat vegetarian diet. Others, like Dr. Neal Barnard, have shown that eliminating ALL meat, ALL dairy, and ALL eggs can prevent heart disease in nearly every person. (Some heart disease is due to genetic defects, but those are rare.) These 'foods' are not necessary for a healthy diet that is based completely on plants. These "awareness" campaigns are nonsensical and money making scams. Awareness should involve major lifestyle changes and less need for drugs and worthless diet programs

Fish Oil supplements useless for decreasing chances of heart disease

Fish Oil supplements useless for decreasing chances of heart disease?
I just saw on CNN this morning a cardiologist saying that fish oil supplements are basically useless, that only the actual food source provides the benefits of decreasing stroke and heart disease? Is this so? I always understood that the omega-3 fatty acids are what provide these benefits, which are included in both the fish oils supplements and obviously the fish themselves....

yes they are really good for the heart
2 :
I think they are somehow right because in the actual food you find different mineral and organic complexes that can't be obtained during chemical reactions in pharma. laboratories. omega 3 fatty acid can't be bad for your health but it's better to eat the whole complex of vitamins, lipids, proteins, etc.

Are there any skeletal signs of diseases of development such as diabetes, heart disease, or obesity

Are there any skeletal signs of diseases of development such as diabetes, heart disease, or obesity?
I'm trying to compare how we can see signs of things such as iron deficiency in ancient skeletal remains with diseases associated with the modern developed world like diabetes, obesity, heart disease. I just can't seem to find whether or not these diseases leave any kind of signs that can be recognized on the skeleton. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If there are technical terms to the signs, those would be very helpful.

Some people don't have symptoms, especially when diabetes is diagnosed early. This is because the blood sugar level may rise so slowly that a person may not know that anything is wrong. Other people may have symptoms, such as: â– Being very thirsty. â– Urinating a lot. â– Losing weight without trying. â– Having blurry vision. â– Feeling hungrier or more tired than usual. Sometimes a person finds out that he or she has type 2 diabetes during a regular medical checkup. Or people may find out that they have the disease during an appointment for another health problem such as high blood pressure, an infection, or a wound that heals slowly. Some people don't find out that they have diabetes until they have a complication from the disease, such as vision problems, kidney disease, nerve disease, or heart and blood vessel problems

What REALLY CAUSES Coronary Heart Disease - Now We Know That Saturated Fat And Cholesterol Absolutely DON'T

What REALLY CAUSES Coronary Heart Disease - Now We Know That Saturated Fat And Cholesterol Absolutely DON'T
What really causes coronary heart disease? Ancel Keys's research has ZERO scientific validity as he LEFT OUT data available from 22 other that CONTRADICTED his theory. Also his false theory was an epidemiological study - which is the LOWEST of the low and is not good enough. Most importantly there has not been one tightly controlled clinical intervention trial that has ever shown saturate dfat to increase CJHD mortality or incidence. So what REALLY CAUSES CHD?
Heart Diseases - 5 Answers

1 :
Coronary artery disease or atherosclerosis is a process in which small fatty layers (plaque) are deposited over many years along the inner wall of the artery. The constant depositing of plaque narrows the vessel and can eventually close off the flow of blood through the coronary arteries. This can be caused by high blood pressure, smoking, high cholesterol levels and diabetes.
2 :
Incorrect answer in 2 ways . First you answered on WHAT it is and were incorrect. The popular but erroneous "fatty deposit" scenario is completely FALSE. It develops BETWEEN the INNER and OUTTER walls of the arteries and is comprised MAINLY of very hard fibrous scar tissu and smooth arterial muscle tissue., collagen calicum deposits and white blood cells and blood platelets and finally small amounts of cholesterol and various fats also. Out of these fats POLYUNSATURATED fat makes up 80 % Secondly I asked what CAUSES IT
3 :
Nanobacteria and hydroxyapatite crystals.
4 :
Saturated fat and cholesterol might not be the sole reason as to why people get heart attacks, which can be caused by CHD, but they are risk factors. The more risk factors, the chances can increase exponentially. Genetics also play a factor with the increase/decrease chances of a CHD so it's hard to have a well efficient study to establish if sat. fat increases CHD unless we can identify it in people's DNA. There are numerous other factors that can cause CHD (hypertension, artherosclerosis, obesity, smoking, drug abuse, sedentary life-style, etc..). Remember that's only one research study that says that saturated fat doesn't cause coronary heart disease. In order for that statement to be more viable, many more studies need to be made to back it up. "Most importantly there has not been one tightly controlled clinical intervention trial that has ever shown saturate dfat to increase CJHD mortality or incidence." - Also, CHD doesn't cause death, it leads to heart attacks which can lead to death.

Funny video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHXXTCc-IVg There are many factors that contribute to development of atherosclerosis, but the primary cause is the profound changes that have taken place in the American diet during the past century, particularly: 1. Imbalance in consumption of essential fatty acids (too little omega-3 as in fish, too much omega-6 as in corn oil, soybean oil, etc.) 2. Excess consumption of carbohydrates particularly sugars and high fructose corn syrup. 3. Eating too much (too many calories). 4. Free radicals in process liquid vegetable oils and trans fatty acids partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. 5. Nutrient deficiencies. The kind of diet that the American Heart Association recomends is contributing to the high rates of cancer, heart disease and stroke. Eat liquid vegetable oils and margarine stay away from saturated fat like butter and coconut oil....blah...blah...blah.. Has anyone told the AHA that butter and coconut oils are the healthiest fats on the planet. http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4668 They fail to mention that the liquid vegetable oils and tub margarines are rancid oils. Because high heat is used to process these oils and the high heat makes the oils rancid (free radicals) and food companies will deodorize the oils to hide the rancid smell. So all those vegetable oils you see on the shelf that look clean and don't smell bad are really rancid. Unless it says "Cold Pressed" oil it's ok. That means high heat was not used in processing. But you should never cook with vegetable oils because the polyunsaturated fats are very vulnerable to damage. It's safer to cook with the more saturated fats or monounsaturated fats like beef tallow, lard, coconut oil, olive oil, sesame oil... http://www.westonaprice.org/knowyourfats/index.html The myths and truths about nutrition: http://www.westonaprice.org/mythstruths/mtnutrition.html There are two kinds of LDL-cholesterol. The light, fluffy LDL is good. Light fluffy LDL is a building block of lipoprotein, so the fact that it is being increased for repair is probably good. The small dense LDL is thought to be bad. One study showed that a lowfat diet in children raises this bad kind of cholesterol. Dreon, MD et al, American Journal of Clinical Nutrition 2000 71:1611-1616). The typical American diet results in increased production of triglycerides, decreased levels of HDL-cholesterol, and a preponderance of small, dense LDL-cholesterol particles, a condition referred to as the atherogenic lipid triad. The increase in the atherogenic potential of LDL arises from the increase in the number of small dense LDL particles, not from the cholesterol content per se. Small dense LDL particles more easily penetrate the arterial wall, initiating atherosclerotic injury, which leads to the development of inflammation and plaque. Proc Nutr Soc, 199 Feb:58(1);163-69. The development of highly atherogenic small dense LDL particles is thought to be due to high insulin levels and excess triglycerides that result from excessive carbohydrate and caloric intake and from an imbalance of essential fatty acids. Res Commun Moi Pathol Pharmacol, 2003:113-114:87-95 and Prostoglandins Leukot Essent Fatty acids. 1997 Oct;57(4-5):379-85. Other factors that contribute to atherosclerosis are smoking, inactivity and stress. It is not unusual for those who adopt a healthy low-carbohydrate diet to experience a reduction on Triglycerides and increase HDL by 50 to 75 percent, indicating a dramatic decrease in insulin resistance, inflammation and levels of small LDL particles, and further indicating reduced risk of diabetes, cornorary artery disease and adverse cardiac events. http://www.westonaprice.org/traditional_diets/sad_changes_american_standard.html http://www.westonaprice.org/moderndiseases/hd.html

Can adolescents develop a heart disease

Can adolescents develop a heart disease?
Hi, I was wondering if adolescents can develop like a hypertensive heart disease? Or is it only for adults?
Heart Diseases - 1 Answers

Adolescents can develop cardiomyopathy, which can results from hypertension. There are several types of cardiomyopathy: where the heart can thin, it can become thick, or it can become rigid. All impair the function of the heart and are usually fatal in their late teens/early 20's. Im sure that you've heard of the high school students that have died while playing sports---this is what they die from. So yes, adolescents can develop heart disease, but an EKG can help diagnose and begin the treatment process of such a thing

Oh for pete's sake, go to the doctor on this one! If your family has a history of HD and diabetes, then you NEED to see a doctor pronto and not waste your time here. As for sex, give me a break! Worry about your family history first and see a doctor! Geesh!!!!
2 :
man...have as much sex as u can while ur alive....
3 :
Your basic standard diet with REDUCED fats, & cholesterol, will be a fine diet for any one with out any know medical condition. Have as much sex as you want!!! Besides being the national pass time IT IS A FORM OF EXERCISE !!! OR should I say SEXERCISE
4 :
if your family has a history of heart dis and diabetes, then this could be a serious one. your should focus on low salt and low fat diet to maintain a low blood pressure. if u have diabetes, the high level of glucose on your blood will cause ur blood to become thick, thereby raising your blood pressure and at the same time it also can form plaques on your blood vessels. having sex will help a lot on preventing heart disease bro, but i advise that u should consult your doctor now before it's too late.
5 :
dont smoke-thats a big factor right there-eat food high in fiber and get your cholesterol checked along w/ blood pressure-sometimes when you have a family hx it doesnt matter what you do-if all those tests come back high you may need a prescription to help lower your cholesterol and bp-talk to your dr

My two favorite websites for Diabetes and Heart Disease are these two: http://www.diabetes.org/home.jsp and http://www.mypyramid.gov/ Both sites are set up to offer great advice for diets as well. Good luck!
2 :
I follow loosely the South Beach phase 2 diet. If you watch the amounts of fats in this it is excellent for both lowering glucose levels and for portion control. I have not gained any weight from the amount of meds required for both these diseases

Peanut butter, Big Macs, sugar colas and pizza for a few. Mom told me, but I will not give up the pizza no matter what happens. Pizza with everything and hot! Skateboarders need power food like pizza. Love it, and I am usually full cheese.
2 :
were did that guy get peanut butter from?, its fattning but all of the fats are healthy fats which helps against heart disease
3 :
then you should drop everything but fresh fruits and veggies.. remembering to keep the beans in there... drop dairy and meats... that is the big ones... forget eggs... each egg has 200mg of cholesterol. still want milk? get soymilk. that's the diet i'm on... a vegetarian.. if not my cholesterol would give me another heart attack. my cholesterol is 89 now.. from 519. fresh fruits and veggies.. NOT from frozen, canned or any processed element. and forget packaged foods that are processed.. no fast food.. no snacks no junk... nothing processed. simple as that.
4 :
None as long as you eat in moderation, get the appropriate amount of fluid, and exercise. Food doesn't cause heart disease and the whole cholesterol bit is for people looking for a magic pill to solve all of their health concerns. It is when you are lazy that bad diet can cause problems. For people who stay active, in a healthy lifestyle, their body will flush all of that bad stuff out

Can a paitient with Coronary heart disease take a long trip by plane

Can a paitient with Coronary heart disease take a long trip by plane?
Hi My dad is 67 years old, and he has Coronary heart disease, can he take a long trip by plane? if we really need him to take a plane. is there anything we need to prepare in case he doesnt feel good on plane? Thank you
Heart Diseases - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Risks in long trips are deep vein thrombosis and also decrease air pressure. Your dad should take his medication regularly. I am sure he will be on aspirin. He should have enough rest prior to the trip and don't get into a rushed and stressed state when getting to the airport etc... Don't consume too much food or alcohol during the flight. And he should walk a bit in the cabin to improve blood circulations to the legs I think that will be sufficient to reduce the risk of any events while in the flight
2 :
He should ask his physician about this but he should be able to travel... he should not drink alcohol...and he should not sit all the time and get some bit of exercise walking up and down the aisle.. because in long plane flights thrombosis in the legs can develop .. which is dangerous as they can move to the lungs and block an artery which could be fatal... but that has nothing to do with your dads condition everybody should do that and everybody can get thrombosis from long plane flights if they don't move .. and never cross legs.. move feet and legs also when sitting down at least every 2 hours.. and compressive stockings for travelling on a plane are good thing...xxx if the doctor has no objection ... your dad will be ok

What, other than high cholesterol, genetics, and high blood pressure cause heart disease

What, other than high cholesterol, genetics, and high blood pressure cause heart disease?
As my question states, is there more than just high cholesterol, genetics, and high blood pressure involved with heart disease? Are there other key components, or are these not even things that cause it? Thanks!
Heart Diseases - 2 Answers

life style.
2 :
High blood pressure causes atherosclerosis in coronary blood vessels, which result is Heart Attack or Myocardial Infarction. Thus, a heart condition and not a heart disease. The same is true for high cholesterol, which builds up in the walls of arteries, making the risk for a heart attack be higher or becoming a risk factor for a heart disease. Genetics is true to cause heart disease and is commonly referred to as Cogential Heart Disease or Defect. Overall, other reasons for a heart disease can be smoking, drinking alcohol, physical abnormalities, certain viruses that may cause Myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) & makes the heart prone to disease, certain bacteria are other factors & may result in Rheumatic Heart Disease, and etc. Good Luck

why do Caucasians have the highest number of deaths due to heart disease

why do Caucasians have the highest number of deaths due to heart disease?
Does anyone know why whites are more susceptible to die from heart disease compared to other races? Is it because of eating behavior, genes, or lifestyle habits?
Heart Diseases - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Because America is a really obese state; I'd blame the junk food. Specially Mcdonald's.
2 :
i think it could be all three? eating behaviours because caucasians today have a way less healthier diet than what used to be (i.e mcdonalds, burger king, especiallly kfc that sh*t is just a bucket of heart disease) and as the foods get even more unhealthier, so does our diet. Genes because im not completely sure of this but some heart diseases could be hereditary. Lifestyles habits.....i dont know, because i said so.
3 :
DNA variant puts Caucasians at higher risk for heart disease, see http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/article756035.ece
