It is called bad genetics
2 :
Heart Disease can also be in your genes - no matter what you do.
3 :
Yes you can, because there are genetic causes and all the running and healthy eating can't outweigh your genes.
4 :
Running distance is too hard for the heart, and it could actually grow and cause nasty effects... I have a friend that was into triathlon and his heart grew larger due to over training the heart muscle... It's much healthier to run sprints, (flat or uphill), than running distance... G'd Luck!!
5 :
If your father and/or his father died young of heart disease I would worry--otherwise DON'T WORRY. Some people's liver produces more cholesterol than they ingest, and it's that cholesterol which clogs the arteries and causes heart attacks. If your father and/or his father died young and didn't eat healthy and run, you will probably out live them by eating healthy and running.

What vitamins could I take to help prevent heart disease or stroke

What vitamins could I take to help prevent heart disease or stroke?
or are there any other proven remedies that may help?

B vitamins & antioxidants =]

It must be approved by Obama.
3 :
don't eat refined sugar. limit your intake of fat, salt and carbs. don't have too little exercise, don't have too much. avoid extremes. (extreme cold or warm, too much computer/tv staring, etc)
4 :
One of the best things you can do is take an Omega3 fish oil supplement. My brother and i (50&51 yrs respectively) have been taking it, and we both got off the Lipitor, (had enough of joint pain, leg swelling, fatigue) Cholesterol and triglyceride lower.

We really need to take lots of Vitamin C to prevent heart disease. Vitamin C is essential in production of collagen in our body. Collagen is a protein that give strength to our blood vessel. When our body don't produce enough collagen the blood vessel particularly the arteries become weak as the elasticity of arteries decreases. Also, the ability of our body to regenerate will decreased. Constant pressure because of the flow of blood pumping by the heart sooner the arteries will started to rapture. To prevent a slow death from internal bleeding our body reacting by producing large amount of cholesterol to patch those damage arteries. Once the broken tissue of the arteries healed, our body will regulate its cholesterol production. But the problem is when the regeneration time of our arteries is longer because of lack of collagen in our body the liver will keep producing cholesterol to patch the broken arteries and as long as the arteries have raptured the liver will keep on producing large amount of cholesterol and eventually build up in the arteries until the plaque was formed and the bigger problem will arise. Contrary to our belief, large amount of cholesterol was produced by our own liver because our body needs to, and not just from the food we eat. In the first place, the so called bad cholesterol was there to help us. It's not the cholesterol our problem, it why our liver producing large amount of cholesterol. Heart disease can also be reversed, meaning you can still get rid of the cholesterol deposit in the arteries. I have a brief explanation about this here http://www.squidoo.com/cure_heart_disease

How long do you have to smoke before lung cancer or heart disease kicks in

How long do you have to smoke before lung cancer or heart disease kicks in?
Is it normally only people who have been smoking for 40+ years or can you get it sooner?
Cancer - 4 Answers

1 :
probly depends how much and how often
2 :
Everyone is different. Some people can smoke all their life and never get lung cancer and there are some people that NEVER smoke that get lung cancer. My grandma quit smoking over 30 years ago and was just diagnosed with lung cancer.
3 :
A doctor once told me that some people can smoke and some people can't and you never know which one you are until it's too late, should you choose to smoke.

Please check out http://www.tcolincampbell.org. Professor Emeritus T. Collin Campbell of Cornell spent his lifetime investigating the link between nutrition, cancer, and other diseases of affluence. He discovered that there is a high correlation between animal protein consumption (milk, dairy, eggs, meat) and the growth of cancers. Instigation of cancers is often a carcinogen, however, growth is dependent on other factors such as plant-based diet versus an animal-based diet. He first studied this link in laboratory rats and then mice. He then did epidemiological studies in rural China. These were all consistent with his hypothesis. Campbell has published over 350 peer reviewed articles, however, the mass media has given scant coverage of his discoveries. Have you ever wondered why Japanese men have an extremely low rate of lung cancer despite a very high rate of tobacco smoking? I would suggest that diet had something to do with it. By the way, Dr. Dean Ornish and Dr. Neal Barnard have shown through scientific studies that heart disease can be reversed by eating a "reversal diet." Get "The Spectrum" by Dr. Dean Ornish if you want more information about reversing heart disease. Again, this is a completely plant-based diet

My family has a trace of heart disease. How do i start a healthy living in order to avoid that disease

My family has a trace of heart disease. How do i start a healthy living in order to avoid that disease?
please make a guideline for me so that i can follow thoroughly

1. ensure that your weight is within the ideal range. 2. ensure your diet is healthy 3. no smoking 4. drink 1 glass of red wine at dinner 5. omega-3 supplement 6. antioxidants like vitamin C and E - better just take more fruits and vege 7. regular exercise
2 :
Eat plenty of raw and preferably organic fruit and veggies. Drink plenty of water. Eat wholegrain breads, rices, pastas. Eat lean meats and poultry for protein. Eat and drink low fat or fat free dairy products only. Reduce salt intake. Avoid junk food as much as you possible can. Reduce stress in your life and engage in some physical activity.the fact that you are so concerned about this possibility lends to my belief that you are an easily stressed individual(sorry), how about taking up a hobby such as yoga or meditating? Also every bit of physical activity helps, try to get out for walks etc more, the fresh air will also do wonders. See your pharmacist about a good multivitamin or nutritional supplement. Have your blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol tested regularly by your doctor or at a local clinic or pharmacy that offers such services. Finally, don't stress about the genetic possibility that you may acquire heart disease, this is something that can easily be prevented by following a healthier lifestyle.

The general well-being of your heart depends largely on the food you eat. If that statement startles you, let me tell you why it should not. The muscles of the heart are continously at work every moment that you live. The energy demanded by the heart is very great. The vitamins-necessary for nergy exchanges the body. As an example let us take vitamin b deficiency. When the suppl of Vitamin B is not adequatemany disturbances occur in the utilaization food for the production of energy. and this disturb many tissues of the body. The Heart muscle are particularly affected because of their high and critical energy demand. Therefore unless you select your diets with care, heart disease will remain scourge. So many everyday foods do not supply you with generous amount of B Vitamin. Here is where you can to a wonder foods for help. One cup of yogurt, two tablespoon of brewer's yeast one cup of wheat germ, and one half cup of dried skim milk, together give 7 times the niacin necessary.Twice the vitamin b2 and also choline, inositol, and panthothenic acid. That is why they its known as wonder food

What do you think about the correlation between periodontal disease and coronary heart disease

What do you think about the correlation between periodontal disease and coronary heart disease?
Do you think it points to causation, or more likely due to confounding factors (socioeconomic)?
Medicine - 2 Answers

1 :
It is impossible to say whether it is causation or socioeconomic or both. I do know there is definitely a relationship by observation over the years.
2 :
Before I looked at your subtext, my immediate thought was that I wouldn't waste too much time looking at causality on a general basis, though there are those who seem enamored of the idea of inflammatory markers in CHD. On the other hand, there certainly must be some causality in certain subgroups, and it doesn't take a lot of research to confirm that. Just look at the teeth of a few meth-heads! (But that isn't the causality you had in mind, is it?

Do you have a child, nephew/niece or a friend with congenital heart disease

Do you have a child, nephew/niece or a friend with congenital heart disease?
Is your child, nephew/niece or friend undergone an open heart surgery? Who was diagnosed ASD Hole in the heart? How's the operation? Please tell something about the after the surgery.

1 :
yeah it is a primary closure of the defect and post operative recovery is slow and needs lots of patience physiotherapy plays an important role in recovery but definetly worth the operation since the problem will go away all the best
2 :
I have congenital heart disease and there are many resources and message boards on the internet to speak with others who have children with similar heart problems and experiences. You can even search for yahoo groups that have members who discuss their children's diseases and how they cope. Now that I am an adult with the disease I go to www.achaheart.org.
3 :
Both my daughter and I were born with tetrology of fallot which is a defect that included a hole between the ventricles as well as a couple other things. We both had surgery. I was three, and she was four months. Children bounce back very well from surgery even quicker than adults. An ASD is a whole between the atria and is pretty common, most dont need surgery. But if surgery is needed, that repair is done quite often, As far as lifestyle, we have a normal life, I played softball and never felt any heart problems. If the ASD is repaired I cant see why not a person can have a normal active life. Some ASD's can be fixed in the cathlab, without the need of open heart surgery. It is relatively new and not all doctors know how to do it, but it may be something worth asking about. Best of luck

My Cat Felix has Heart Disease how can i treat it

My Cat Felix has Heart Disease how can i treat it?
My Cat Felix is 3 years old which means he's 21 in human years he's getting chubby and has been diagnosed with heart disease but can i get some kind of tablets or medicine instead of putting him down
Cats - 3 Answers

1 :
There is absolutely no reason to consider putting him down, as he really is just transitioning from being a kitten to being a cat, and you haven't even suggested what the cardiovascular problem is suspected. Maybe you were told if he doesn't lose weight, it could cause heart problems down the road. Maybe he has a murmur, which may mean little. There are a lot of "ifs", but your vet is the one to ask those questions to.
2 :
Well, first off he's going to be needing a diet to take the extra weight off. Vets have a special diet for cats who have heart problems. There is also medication as well. You need to discuss both with your cats vet. Never give a cat any medication with out discussing it with the vet.
3 :
Since heart disease varies from 'fair' to 'bad', it really depends on the degree he has it and the type. Euthenasia is not necessary for most of these cats. You should be talking with your vet about what level your cat is currently at, what the options are for treatment, and his long term chances. Most cats do fine till the very end. Getting some of his weight off would likely help. We lost one of ours to cardiomyopathy at age seven. He had a clean bill of health the year before, but over the course of 10 months his left ventricle wall thickened up so much his blood pressure dropped--we only saw results of that in the last 3 days, he was breathing a little hard, his chest was accumulating fluid at that point and pressing on the lungs
