Why has cancer replaced heart disease as the leading cause of death

Why has cancer replaced heart disease as the leading cause of death?
How can The Powers That Be compare the two? A broad category shouldn't be compared with a single entity. There are numerous types of cancer, but 'heart disease' is specific. Isn't that like saying "fruit has replaced corn as children's favorite food"? Again, I say "A broad category shouldn't be compared with a single entity"... Please answer the whole question, not just the initial one. Thank you.

Because there are so many chemicals in our food that it is logical that eventually cancer will be the leading cause of death.
2 :
Quite simply put, because more people will be dying from Cancer, than from heart disease.
3 :
I had the same "head-tilting" response as you when I read this news. Cancer is so broad and encompasses many, many illness possibilities while the heart is but "one". In my opinion, they are non-comparable. It is an unfair study and definitely one-sided.
4 :
Why do you believe heart disease is so specific? There are many different diseases grouped under the heart disease umbrella. Murmurs, arrhythmia's and other irregular beating patterns are diseases, although usually repaired by pacemaker. Angina, cramps, and heart attack are also included. Don't forget swellings, blockages, valve failures, and aneurysm. I think you are confused by organ specific (heart), and genetic mutation, which can affect any organ. Dead is still dead. The statistic is important in that as Americans we are more 'heart healthy' today and more knowledgeable. Remember 40 short years ago, both were exponentially more often fatal than today. Be awed that 'the Powers that Be' are trying.
5 :
From what I heard, this was partially based on the fact that 40% of all cigarette smokers are in China and India which will increase the amount of lung cancer worldwide based on the numbers who smoke

Why shouldn't a patient with heart disease have their temperature taken rectally

Why shouldn't a patient with heart disease have their temperature taken rectally?
I am studying for an exam and one of the questions is 'Rectal temperatures should not be taken from which of the following patients?' The answer is 'patients with heart disease' My question is, why shouldn't they? It's not in my book and I don't remember this ever being talked about in class. I can't find the answer anywhere. Please help.

Look up Vagal Response in your book and you will find the answer. The vagus nerve runs from the brain to the rectum, passing the heart in the process. Pressure on the vagus nerve can cause the heart to slow down, and blood pressure to drop. This is the main reason that a lot of elderly people come into the hospital. (They passed out while on the toilet.) Taking a rectal temperature can put pressure on the vagus nerve, causing a decline in the blood pressure and heart rate of your patient. You can actually cause a cardiac event, and even, death in some cases by taking the rectal temp, on a cardiac patient. (a patient with heart disease) Good luck in your class.
2 :
Because the vagus nerve is there and it has a direct connection to the heart, brain, throat, etc. Putting a rectal thermometer in might stimulate that nerve causing the heart to spasm.
3 :
The anal valves are richly supplied with sensory nerves (sacral plexus) and therefore very sensitive to pain. intense pain may cause bradycardia, syncope and even cardiac arrest, another reason is patients who use anticoagulants, aspirin or antiplatelette drugs has a chance of bleeding PR or haematoma

How long does heart disease take to kill someone

How long does heart disease take to kill someone?
So my friend told me the other day that he was going to die in a month of heart disease and I didnt believe him. He is very active and has no problems with anything as far as I am concerned. He is also only in his teens still and therefore I am led to believe that he is lying, but I would like to know how long it takes for heart disease to kill someone after they get the pain in their chest.

Depends on the heart disease some kill faster some kill slower find the disease he is talking about and ask your doctor or physician about that Lol or come back here.
2 :
"Heart Disease" is an extremely vague term. It actually means any disorder that effects the heart. It could mean harmless palpitations to valve problems or congenital defects. Unfortunately, the information he's given you is too vague to answer the question with any degree of accuracy.
3 :
you know him best ask him what is your condition
4 :
Well in ordering for him to have heart disease......he has to have some form of blockages. With that, it is easily taken care of....if he does, he would have already had the surgery. The disease can be controlled by taking meds, eating a healthy diet, exercise, and staying away from cigs. My grandpa had his first heart attack at 42, and passed away when he was 80....38 years, with heart disease. Some people aren't so lucky. But, if he were going to die in a month....trust me he wouldn't be at school, he would be in the hospital very sick.
5 :
It can even kill you within 1 day or take 5 years to kill. It just depends on the type of heart disease you have

Is this possible with a person having a congenital heart disease

Is this possible with a person having a congenital heart disease?
I'm not sure if this is medically proven or correct coz i just invented this. For example, a person is born with congenital heart disease, and his heart is weak ever since. But he is an athlete. He plays basketball since he was a child. And being an athlete helps him survive, because basketball is a sport and sport is a form of exercise, right? And exercise is good for the heart. So he survived BECAUSE of playing basketball? Can that possibly happen?

"Sometimes CHD improves with no treatment necessary. At other times the defect is so small and does not require any treatment." If the person had one of these two, then yes he could play sports, but they wouldn't improve his condition. If he had soemthing severe e probably couldn't play sports until after he had an operation to fix the CHD
2 :
Children and adults with congenital heart defects can tolerate varying levels of exercise. Generally, exercise restrictions are based on the severity and type of heart defect. People with mild heart defects usually can participate in any type of sport or exercise. Those who have moderate or severe defects or who have had surgery require careful evaluation by a health professional before starting an exercise or sports program. Often a stress test EKG (a type of electrocardiogram) is done to determine the effect of exercise on the heart. Many children have this test by the time they start school and become involved with physical education classes and other activities.http://www.revolutionhealth.com/conditions/heart/congenital-heart-disease/live-with/exercise

Do marathon runners have significantly lower rates of heart disease and strokes

Do marathon runners have significantly lower rates of heart disease and strokes?
If I run an average of two marathons a year, will that decrease my chance of getting a heart attack or stroke. I eat relatively healthy and do not smoke or drink. My genetics are bad, though, because both my parents have heart disease and my dad has had three strokes already.

Do you need to have heart disease, to have a heart attack

Do you need to have heart disease, to have a heart attack?
Or can you just get one anyways, or do you necessarily have to have something wrong with your heart, like heart disease? Okay, then how do you get a blood clot? If you can get a heart attack from stress, I'm surprised I haven't had one yet.

no you dont have to have a disease. it can usually be caused by stress or old age.
3 :
no
4 :
Diet has a lot to do with it as well. If you're diet is high in fat/cholesterol etc, the blood vessels providing ur heart muscle with blood could be blocked off resulting in a heart attack.
5 :
nope
6 :
No, you don't need any diseases to cause a heart attack. Anybody could have one. Have you heard about the kid who drank 2 red bulls and went out and played hockey, and had a heart attack? The dumbest things can cause one. It's ridiculous.
7 :
No you don't need heart disease. A blood clot from somewhere in your body can dislodge, find its way to the heart, and block the vessels there.
8 :
no .. its happened out of the norm. to some
9 :
no
10 :
You do not have to have heart disease to have a heart attack.
11 :
no u can have a heart attack without heart disease call 911 if ur having chest pain
12 :
no yuo don't it comes when you realy old like if your 59 you have a chance of having becasue your body gets used to one place and if you go to anthor place with way different things like drugs around yyou would have. or u can have one if you choke and noones help you
13 :
no you don't have to have a heart disease to have a heart attack. my uncle was perfectly fine and healthy then the next day he had a heart attack. You get a blood clot when a component in your blood gets sticky and clogs but sometimes you have to get a blood clot like when you have a cut it will stop the bleeding.
14 :
You don't have to have something wrong with your heart to get heart disease. You get it if you are too stressed or if you put on large amounts of body weight. If you take fatty foods you arteries will get clogged up with it.But if you are really stressed then your artery will compress for a second giving you pain. It's better to have an ECG test once a year if you're getting old.Because ladies usually don't get pain like men when they have a heart attack
15 :
You can have a heart attack without having heart disease, possible causes: -drugs especially cocaine -stress -cardiac trauma -excessive alcohol -diabetes -coronary artery spasm -exposure to extreme cold --hign homocysteine, c-reactive protein and fibrinogen levels -anomalous coronary artery -profound anemia or blood loss -lack of oxygen from respiratory failure, carbon monoxide poisoning -cardiac trauma You can develope a blood clot when you have coronary artery disease. As plaque forms in the walls of your coronary artery, it ruptures and blood continues to flow over the obstruction. The plaque ruptures and your platelets form a clot, causing a complete occlusion of your coronary artery.leading to a heart attack. Stress can lead to hypertension and added to other cardiac risk factors can cause a heart attack. I've been under severe stress for the last twelve years and my heart is ok. Add stress in combination with other risk factors such as high lipids etc. and you could be a ticking time bomb.Your question asked about causes other than coronary artery disease. I hope this helped, Donna B. -
16 :
No. Cocaine use is a common cause of heart attacks in people without heart disease.
17 :
No you can have one even if you dont have a heart disease

Are most instances of heart disease and diabetes preventable through diet

Are most instances of heart disease and diabetes preventable through diet?
Over the past 30 years, incidents of type II diabetes has tripled in the US. Some researches claim that heart disease and type II diabetes are almost always the result of an unhealthy diet. They also claim that these diseases can be prevented and reversed through a healthy diet and moderate exercise. Do you agree?
Diabetes - 3 Answers

I agree that a bad diet can lead to heart disease and type II diabetes, but there are also other factors involved, including the amount of physical activity one undertakes and also the person's genetic disposition. Some are more prone to these diseases than others. As for being able to reverse the diseases, I don't beleive yet that it is possible. It is difficult to restore damaged tissue in the heart muscle and even though one can reverse the effects of type II diabetes through a managed diet and exercise, I don't think the disease 'goes away'. The acid test is that when a bad diet and lack of exercise is re-introduced, the diabetes returns extremely quickly. This of course is only my opinion and not based on any medical training.
2 :
I think that in most cases this is true, there are a few cases however like cancer where it just happens. I can see where some people sit at their desk jobs, eat donuts for breakfast, fast food for lunch, then have their 7 smoke breaks, eat red meat, love to have a 6 pack or two at night, and can't understand why they are 30 pounds or more overweight, high blood pressure, etc.... I wish the health insurance industry would treat them like car insurance, if your going to get into accidents, or if your not going to take care of your body, you pay extra.
3 :
Absolutely, positively and unequivocally true. However, one must be aggressive and disciplined in all that is natural, holistic and physical
