Table salt, also known as sodium chloride, consists of both sodium and chloride. One teaspoon of salt contains roughly 2,400 mg of sodium, and 3,800 mg of chloride. It is the sodium component of salt that increases the risk for high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. # Humans require a small amount of sodium in order to maintain health. However, in some people, too much sodium causes blood pressure to rise. High blood pressure increases your risk for heart disease and stroke

My father has congestive heart disease and is now on dialysis. How strenuous is this to his heart

My father has congestive heart disease and is now on dialysis. How strenuous is this to his heart?
The doctors say his heart is weak. He has had 2 treatments and is very tired and will not eat much. What is the prognosis if any/

Your father's main problem is congestive heart failure. Kidney disease can be (and usually is) caused by many different things. There is a good chance that the congestive heart failure is worsening the kidney failure and the kidney failure is worsening the congestive heart failure. Dialysis should actually help his heart and overall health. It is notoriously difficult to give a prognosis with these diseases since the course varies for everybody. Nonetheless, I think it would be important to do end of life planning at this point, if not already done
