Is this okay to ask my physician to refer me to a cardiologist, if he told me I dont have heart disease

Is this okay to ask my physician to refer me to a cardiologist, if he told me I dont have heart disease?
I did EKG and the result is normal, but I still think I have heart disease, is that OKAY to ask my physician to refer me to a cardiologist?

You may not need a referral to see a cardiologist but you need to check with your insurance. i know that with medicare you don't need one. If you feel that there is a possibility of heart disease and it runs in your family and you want to see one ask your doctor to give you a referral for one and I'm sure he will.
2 :
you have every right to a second opinion, and alot of doctors actually encourage it if you ask.... so it's your body and your right. only you know your body and if it gives you peace of mind do what you must! hope this helps
3 :
You can ask, but you might want to check your coverage, as lilginny suggests. I'd also talk to your physician first. Tell him why you think you have heart disease, and review the tests and procedures that he used to rule out heart disease. Unless you have a background in medicine, or you're showing signs and symptoms that you're not telling the doctor about, I'd be inclined to trust his opinion. Self-diagnosis, or even diagnosis of family members is a dangerous thing. I know of a doctor who lost a son to cancer because he diagnosed a rampaging multi-organ malignancy in his own son as "probably just an ulcer".
4 :
i have been having the same problem ,they chopped it up to palpitation due to too much coffee and cigarettes, caffeine and such causes the heart to react funny especially if there is not enough clear water intake i had a stress test last week and i passed it okay they said my heart rate rose a lil quicker then expected on the treadmill but nothing to serious ,,,anyways yes its okay to have a second opinion if your doctor refuses then he is not a good doctor and you should find a new one that's what its all about ,is you ,not their ego good luck i hope you get this figured out ..
5 :
it is ok to want to see a cardiologist, but without a verifiable reason (proven through medical records) your insurance company may not cover your visit

Can I get a serious case of heart disease if my boyfriend breaks up with me?
Im a fraid ill die if he breaks up with me! does that mean i'll get heart disease? cause like, my gramma died later of heart disease when my grampa died. I think it was because her heart was so sad and depressed that it got a disease. will it happen to me?

No......... ?
2 :
No. I don't think a broken heart has ever been listed as a cause of death. When people get old their heart gets weaker. It sounds like you're super young and being ridiculous.
3 :
i seriously doubt it.
4 :
and you are a 5yr old right please say yes for that stupid ???? or are u drunk
5 :
Oh W.T.F.? This has got to be a joke! If so...funny. It not...grow up!
6 :
your heart controls the amount of blood flowing through your body. it does NOT control anything else. so no, you're not going to die of heart disease. is this even a real question?
7 :
killer pink hamster u must be like 13 so of course u feel that way u will get over it it happens to all of us.
8 :
please see a counselor
9 :
Uh, I don't think so?
10 :
No sweetie BUT emotions do have physical reactions.
11 :
Sweetheart you will not die if your bf breaks up with you. Your grandmother had probably been with your grandfather for 40 or 50 yrs. You can not compare the two. If you do end your relationship you will survive, trust me.
12 :
Your grandmother died of heart disease because it probably ran in the family. There is no way, you can get heart disease if your boyfriend breaks up with you. I would not be here today, after all of the failed relationships I have had before I met and married my husband of 16 years!!!
13 :
This heart disease you are talking about is just a mental thing. You will not die, become insane or anything else. Just depressed. If you were told that your grandmother died from sadness thats propably not correct. It was something like a heart infection.
14 :
ha thanks for that
15 :
you're kidding right. I can't believe you are actually THAT STUPID OH MY GOD HOW ON EARTH ARE YOU SO DUMB? HEART DISEASE? THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR STUPID FAKE BOYFRIEND UGGHHHH GO AWAY AND STOPP BEING STUPID. >[
16 :
No a broken heart does not cause heart disease. No one can be your whole life so start building friendships outside of your relationship.. . It's not uncommon for long time married couples to die one right after another. She could have been having heart trouble for a long time before she died.
17 :
Please dont be a pyscho and tell this to your boyfriend, it will only fuel him further to break up with you. People dont die of broken hearts, outside of fairytales. So save the dramatics for acting school and get a grip on reality dear okay? You love, and you love hard, and something tells me you love quickly aswell. Step back and evaluate the whole situation, work on yourself and your insecurities about being alone. You dont need a boyfriend to survive, and you wont attract too many good ones portraying your self as needy and non existant without one.
18 :
If everyone died from a broken heart, there would be no one left on earth. Think about it.
19 :
No, you only get heart disease by eating the wrong foods and not exercising

How is Congenital Heart Disease Genetic? Is it domminant or recessive, sex-linked ect

How is Congenital Heart Disease Genetic? Is it domminant or recessive, sex-linked ect???
I need to know as much as I can about the genetics of Congenital Heart disease. Please help!

1 :
In most cases, the causes of congenital heart disease are unknown. Genetic and environmental factors and lifestyle habits can all be involved. The likelihood of having a child with a congenital heart disease increases if the mother or father, another child, or another relative had congenital heart disease or a family history of sudden death. In 2004, researchers identified a chromosome deletion that might explain some of the genetic causes of certain congenital heart diseases. While only a small proportion of congenital heart lesions currently have identifiable gene markers, the number is growing rapidly. The next decade of research into congenital heart disease will see an exciting convergence of the disciplines of developmental biology, genetics and paediatric cardiology, and, we hope, will not only go further towards answering the question “Why did this happen to us?”, but also provide more secure grounds for genetic counselling and intervention.
2 :
Hello, congenital heart disease just means it is contracted before birth, and therefore usually presents in babies or children, although sometimes later. There are many types of CHD eg Fallot's tetralogy (tetra = four; four defects in one), Patent Ductus arteriosus (PDA), VSD (ventricular septal defect = one type of "hole in the heart"), etc. etc. Most types of CHD are due to some sort of insult during pregnancy and are not transmitted genetically; ie, the diseases do not pass from parents to children, so the question of recessive, dominant, sex-linked, etc. does not arise. The common causes of IHD are exposure to drugs OR infective agents during pregnancy eg rubella (German measles), cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection, and certain drugs (just like thalidomide led to short limbs

If someone has heart disease, would doing gymnastics and Martel arts kill them

If someone has heart disease, would doing gymnastics and Martel arts kill them?
If a person had undiagnosed heart disease and led an extremely active life doing gymnastics, martal arts, rock climbing, etc, wouldn't they experience some sort of symptoms, like fainting or dizziness, or nausia, or something like that, even death?

perhaps You should get electron beam tomography THIS will tell you if you have coronary heart disease There are MANY forms of heart disease though this is only one
2 :
Typically, heart disease (which there are many kinds) is seen in INACTIVE folks... overweight, over 40, etc. The exercise you describe is what keeps most of us from GETTING heart disease. That being said... sometimes there are defects in the hearts of otherwise healthy folks. In that case, there is no way to know...
3 :
IT WOULD BE UP TO YOUR DOCTOR if you were well enough to play,,,that is why they like you to get an Doctor report about what you are able to do with your heart problems,,,,ys ago you could not do much if you had heart problems; but today with all the medicine and specialists you can lead a pretty good life.... lol

Which Body Systems Are Affected By Heart Disease

Which Body Systems Are Affected By Heart Disease?
I want to know if heart disease only affects the circulatory system. If there is anymore systems please tell me... or provide links to a webpage with the information.

1 :
MEGADETH - ALL body systems are affected by heart disease because the heart pumps blood to EVERY ORGAN AND CELL in the body. If the blood supply is inadequate all systems will suffer.
2 :
Heart disease affects the entire body because it affects the blood that the body uses to stay healthy.
3 :
Stroke, renal failure, phlebitis, edema, pulmonary hypertension, etc.
4 :
Rarely are the causes of heart disease (plaque) isolated to the heart. PAD (peripheral arterial disease) narrows the arteries that supply blood to the extremities causing pain, neuropathy and in extreme cases amputation. Stroke is usually caused by plaque formed in the carotid arteries supplying the brain. Renal arteries can be clogged with plaque also, damaging kidneys. So while elevated bad cholesterol causes plaque formation in the arteries supplying blood to the heart, blood supplies to every organ can be compromised as well if plaque builds up in the arteries supplying them.
5 :
The kidneys and/ or liver are usually affected as well as other organs by heart disease. If the circulation is slowed in the kidney area, the body will get over volumed(excessive fluid) taxiing the heart to work harder

Does sitting still in front of the TV cause Heart Disease

Does sitting still in front of the TV cause Heart Disease?
I just heard on the news that a study has been done that watching TV for three hours or more a day causes heart disease and earlier death. So does that mean sleeping for 8 hours a night is worse?
Heart Diseases - 2 Answers

1 :
Of course not. Sleep is a given. It's what you do doing your waking hours that counts, and if you spend 3 hours or more a day in front of the TV it's likely that you are generally inactive. It's not the TV that causes the heart disease, it's the inactivity.
2 :
No, but posting stupid questions will cause me to hunt you down and hurt you

Anyone going thru a parent with short term memory loss due to heart disease

Anyone going thru a parent with short term memory loss due to heart disease?
My Dad has had a heart attack in the past year and the last 2 yrs his short term memory loss has gotten worse - especially after the heart attack. It's not Alzheimer's - it's heart disease that has caused short term loss. He can recall all older things. I just need any tips or to talk to someone who has gone or is going thru it. Thanks and please no stupid posts - if you don't have something worth the energy it takes to type it... just don't.

I havent gone through it myself but what I suggest is asking your doctor about support groups and other kinds of support. Also try to spend time just relaxing watching documentaries with him and other things that he is interested in. Sorry to hear what youre going through; I wish you and your dad all the best.
2 :
Sometimes cardiac issues or a stroke can trigger a form of dementia, it is important to get a diagnosis from a neurologist. There are multiple diagnosis such as vascular dementia that could explain what he is going through. Alzheimers and dementia patients typically lose their short term memory, and are able to recall long term facts very easily. There are tests that could help you. Try google searching a global dementia scale or global deterioration scale. They can give you clues of some questions to ask. How old is your dad?
3 :
If your dad has had a heart attack, it is possible he has arteriosclerosis (a stiffening of the blood vessel walls) or a type of arterial blockage due to cholesterol buildup. . If this occurs in blood vessels in the brain it could cause "mini-strokes. These strokes can cause lesions (damage to brain tissue) which can affect short term memory. It prevents the individual from moving a memory from short term memory to long term memory. He can recall old memories because those were well established in his long term memory before any damage to his brain tissue occurred. While the heart attack itself may have little to do with his memory problem, it could be a contributing factor. More likely the memory loss (a form of dementia) is being caused by some of the same factors that precipitated his heart attack. These are usually cholesterol buildup in arteries and arteriosclerosis which is a stiffening of the artery wall. While this type of dementia is usually associated with old age it can occur earlier. (middle age) There is a lot more I could say on the subject but I tend to babble on when I write these answers. Needless to say I wish your dad the best. Good luck to you and your family
