My uncle has a mediclaim policy with hyper tension as pre existing disease. Can a pre-existing hypertension (High BP) be sighted as reason for denying insurance claim for the treatment of heart attack? My uncle underwent Angioplasty for which the insurance company has denied the claim saying the he had a pre-existing hypertension with High BP.

Unfortunately Yes. I went to the company's site and here's what it says: 3.5 Preexisting Diseases means any aliment / disease / Injury that the person is suffering from (known/not known, treated/untreated, declared or not declared in the proposal) whilst taking the policy. Any complication. Arising from pre-existing ailment / disease / Injury will be considered as Preexisting Diseases.

No one here knows anything about your uncle's insurance coverage or medical conditions. You need to carefully read his policy provisions.

~~When he received his contract and benefit package it would clearly show what exclusions he would have due to the high BP. In our country corporatations rule, so without looking at everything and my extensive background in the health care industry, I would guess without a doubt that all the exclusion would include any possible secondary illness that could possible be due to high BP. The truth is health insurance companies do not want to pay, and protect themselves in any way possible. To be certain though, you need to see his letter of acceptance and his policy coverage, as every policy is so different, and state laws can vary the law of what health insurance can and can not do in every state. ~~

Yes. Hypertension leads to heart issues or stroke issues. If the policy excludes things related to hypertension, an angioplasty is clearly excluded.

Of course the insurance is going to say that. They dont want to pay it. Anytime an insurance company has to pay money they fight it. They rather spend more money fighting people than just paying over the money. They love to take it but hate paying it out. Your uncle is entitled to his money. He is oging to have to legally fight them for years to see it though. Good luck. Maybe after spending $10,000 in lawyer fees, wasting hundreds of hours in the lawyer offices and courts, he will see his money in 5-10 years from now. It is how they operate. Dirty crooks they are. And, the republican politicians protect them
