Heart Disease?
Hi all A quick question I know heart disease is strong in my family anyway and both my parents have heart issues but I was wondering are there any possibilities that these issues can be skipped in certain generations or is it inevetible that I will get it when im older - I think I will be in line to get it but maybe im wrong. Thanks

Since you at are high risk for heart disease because of the genetic issue, you need to take every precaution necessary to lower your controllable risk factors, such as low-fat low-cholesterol diet, exercise, no smoking, etc.

short anwer is no. I'm in the same boat as you and had problems a few years back with my cholesterol. however, we can take steps to avoid like eating healthly and exercise, but it's no guarantee against it.

It may be partly genetic, but partly family dietary habits. I shared my propensities for snacks of cheese and crackers, like my Dad, more than my siblings. And ice cream, and peanut butter. No one else among my siblings has severe heart disease except me. Improve your diet, don't smoke, try to be mellow and non-stressed, get an hour of exercise almost every day. Eats a lot more fruits and veggies. low amount of meats, no visible animal fat or skin.

The key word when dealing with Heart Disease that has strong family history is Prevention. You should make sure that you follow a heart healthy diet. Lots of whole grains, lots of fruits and vegetables and low-fat lean protien. The is also a need for you to incorporate regular, vigorous exercise into your lifestyle. 30-45 minutes a day is suggested. Many medical conditions that have a genetic tendency (increased chance of occurring in family members of affected individuals) are actually carried on a number of genes (polygenetic) rather than on one gene (monogenetic). The latter include diseases like cystic fibrosis (which affects children with chest infections and malabsorption), albinism and haemophilia. In these conditions, the proportion of children of affected people who might themselves be affected is roughly predictable. Even so, in these conditions, too, there is no certainty of any individual developing the disease except in dominant conditions where both parents are affected. So there is a good chance that you may be spared, especially if you reduce other risk factors, by eating healthily, exercising regularly, not smoking, etc. (I am assuming the heart disease in your family is IHD). I hope this helps. If you need more info, IM me.

As a heart attack survivor I have come to find the Bible as a source of healing. Medicine is a great thing, I use it daily. Answering a question like you asked, you said "I think I will be in line to get it", I think in the medical profession you will get pro and con depending on who you ask. The Bible says concerning this, "as a man thinketh, so is he". Start changing your thinking concerning this matter by saying, I'm not going to be a part of such disease. The Bible also says, "the words of your mouth will snare you". You can speak positive or negative words, the choice is yours One last quote. "Life and Death are in the Power of the Tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof". "Choose Life". Your tongue and your thoughts set in motion either life forces or death forces. These are not just possibilities, they are from God!! I'm not saying to give up on eating right and exercising, just change your thinking
